I've just seen a 'friend' posting on Facebook stating that she is now a mobile therapist specialising in nails and tans with 9 years experience (don't know where all this supposed experience has come from) but the bit I don't understand is
"Book now for a full body spray tan for £10."
"Or book a party of 5, the 'booker' will receive free spray tan and all ladies will revive free manicure or pedicure"
That's £40 for 5 tans and manicures??

I am re-training with Nouvatan within the next couple of weeks, and I am offering a discounted £15 spray tans for first 10 customers to gain more practice.

Am I expecting too much regarding prices, or in your opinion is she too cheap?

I think surely if you're selling yourself short you're selling the profession short. Not to mention she's started sidling in on my clients .eg.
"Hi Sam, could you fit me in for a Mani/pedi this week? Just realised I have a wedding on Saturday and need a colour swap" (regular)

"How about Thursday Afternoon, 3pm"
(Me)

"Hi there, ....... I could fit you in anytime on Friday. Less chance of chipping if you have it day before. I also offer spray tans for £10 if you'd like a summer glow aswell" (said 'friend')

That was actually the bit that annoyed me the most. Not to mention my client has shellac so no chance of chipping regardless of one or two days before.

Sorry this has turned into a bit of a long rant... And breathe.

Wow, thats pretty rude!
I wouldnt class her as a friend doing that!

I would take her aside and tell her you dont appreciate her trying to sway your customers toward her business. X

Cheeky so and so
I would block her for trying to steal your clients blatantly in front of you
What's wrong with people

Hun at the end of the day, YOUR clients (regulars) are likely to stay loyal to you because of the service you give, aswell as the finished product. I have regulars, but then im well aware some of them trial else where ( through grapevine) , then scuttle back! We are all guilty of it ..new hairdressers opening/ half price offer in new nail salon...but 9 times out of 10 you go back to what u know and feel comfortable with.
don't let this worry you, be strong and confident in your services. You know it will only take one complaint and word spreads like wildfire in the beauty industry, and word of mouth will make or break u .She's ballsy Il give her that!...but unprofessional right from the beginning oh dear! X chin up hunny

I would reply with "please conduct your own business on your own business page" then block her! The cheeky cow xx

With regards to your prices it really does depend on the area you live. The town I live in is swamped with tanning 'therapists' who are offering £7, £10 tans - I dread to think what they are using! I use Sienna X and initally set my prices at £20 - I never got one client because clients could not see what difference they would get.

I dropped my prices to £15 for a full body and I get a nice stream of regulars and also people for special occassions. They all comment about the extras (sticking feet, etc.) that I provide and the attention to detail - no white patches etc.

Sometimes its not about selling yourself short but being competetive and that is a real balance.

Good luck x

Is your facebook page a personal page or a business page? If it's a business page, I'm fairly sure she can't access this info. If you are running your personal page as a business page, swap it to a business one then accidentally tell fb that someone seems to be running their personal page as a business page. FB don't like it!

Oh and just to add this is a totally crappy thing that she is doing and maybe ask why she has such great availability if she's so cheap? Could it be because she's not very good?

Business woman she ain't!

What she does will return to her.
So as long as she is happy with being treated the same way as she is treating you then I sure she has nothing to worry about !

Beauty at your finger tips!

Thanks for all the replies geeks, and good to know that I'm not going mad - she was completely out of line.
It was my business page and she too was on her business page, so no way I can get my own back there. He he

I sent her a PM (didn't want it to end up in a public cat fight)
"Hi..........

Not to be a bitch or anything, but I really don't appreciate you trying to 'scam' clients from me. She is a regular client, whom has a disability and feels comfortable with very few people, so do not expect her to reply. I have trained in many different areas and have put my heart and soul (and savings) into my profession so please refrain from 'luring' clients with " blue sky shellac" and unbranded spray tan.

Thank you very much.

.PS. You are uninsured and illegally providing these services to the public. If any of your clients were to have an adverse reaction to your knock off products, you would not be covered. You would be sued. And potentially jailed"

Not quite sure I took the high road there, but I feel a darn sight better :)

Welcome to the business world of beauty. Salons constantly chasing others clients, constantly undercutting to tempt them. Makes me laugh when they give stuff away because 'im newly trained'. Youre either trained or you arent. Or opening offers. Its all just a guise to try and poach clients, rather than building a business on reputation and quality. I never do offers and am still turning people away x

I can't believe she had the cheek to do that!
I think your reply to her was spot on. I also have a 'friend' who has 'taken up' gel polish as she has seen it done so many times and looks easy.

Where price is concerned I know how you feel as I have thought the same in the past, however, like fellow geeks have pointed out, the cheap prices may lure clients in initially, but your skills will keep them long term. Chin up and know your worth!!
