Hello, I've recently started my own business. I feel like I need a website but I don't know where to start? What ones do you all use?

Thanks x

Hey Elrose,

Congrats on starting your own business!!! A lot of my friends are in the same boat.

Myself and a few others here are web designers that could help, but since your just starting out (and if you're anything like my friends), I imagine the budget is less than $0.

I'd recommend maybe having a try at building one yourself. https://www.squarespace.com/ is super user-friendly and easy to use. I personally prefer https://wordpress.org/ but it's a bit more complex (although you can do a lot more with it).

I'm thinking of creating an online workshop for my friends - showing them how to set up and update a super, super basic website with Wordpress. Would you like me to invite you to this when I have it ready.

Xx Good Luck and feel free to shoot any questions.

I've heard Wix are free and simple

It really depends on what you want from your website. There are free platforms out there such as Wix, Weebly, Moonfruit that often don't perform well in Google 'generally' and never look 100% polished or professional in my opinion. I do get surprised by the odd one that looks good now and again but it's a real minority.

Squarespace is better if you insist on needing to do it yourself.

You have to decide where your time is best spent because making a website is a skill just like hair and beauty is. I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't lol :) Here is an example I use regularly: I could tidy my garden and spend hours doing it, getting the hump, taking me away from my work where I'd earn more money. (I hate gardening). Instead, I pay a reasonably priced chap who comes and does it for me freeing me up to keep working and the time he's taken to do it, I've been more productive doing my actual job.

We have done lots of websites for geeks on here and recently launched a cost effective pay monthly packages which may be of some use to you - http://penguinmedia.co.uk/pay-monthly-websites/

A website is an investment. It's a shop front to your business open 24/7, 365 days a year. It needs to be perfect to represent you and your business. You soon don't worry about the cost if it's bringing you custom.

Hello, that would be amazing if you could add me, it's all so confusing!! I'm also a bit of a perfectionist, so I can imagine it's going to take me forever, haha! [emoji23]Thankyou x

I set my website up using Wordpress. Once you get the basics it's fine to update it and it's free.
I have linked mine to my web address (which I paid a small amount to register)

I also used Wordpress. It looks really good even if I do say so myself! I always ask new clients "how did you hear about me" and loads say they googled and I was there on the first page of results.

#WordPress power :)

That's so great! Being found in google is so damn important these days.

Exactly as BannerPengiun said above - Squarespace & Wordpress are the best to use to perform well in Google.

#WordPress power! Ahaha Love it!

Ahaha I'm a chronic perfectionist too - I know where you're coming from.

I just started following your profile, so I'll let you know when I have the workshop ready Xx
