Hi all I'm hoping to open a salon soon and rent a double beauty room either to one or two therapists/ technicians but I'm unsure what skillset to concentrate on? Please can you tell me what you feel would work more successfully alongside a hairsalon?

I could also convert a small additional room into spray tanning/ sunbed room

My options are;

*General beauty (including waxing)
*Nails
*Lashes
*Makeup

Thanks in advance xxx

Haha just had this convo with my hairdresser while having my hair done.

I was approached by a lady recently who wanted to set up a hair salon in the other end of my beauty salon. I personally don't think the two go that well together, but if they are, you're looking at the functional treatments like waxing and nails rather than the high end facials and massage etc. Most of those you've listed should be fine.

But to answer your title, my money makers are the high end facials x

I agree with sqidger, I wouldn't be comfortable having a relaxing papering massage at a salon in a hair dressers. Functional treatments are a good idea. You could look at hollywood waxing or lashes as well.

Hi ladies & thank you!

sorry should have explained myself theres a lady who specialises in high end facials and massage just down the road x

Waxing and nails go well with hair appointments in my experience x

Just literally about to open the doors of a salon that does both hair and beauty.

I myself do both but my friend is taking on the hairdressing side where I will do the following

*nails (gels, shellac, acrylics, gel polish, manis and pedis.
*waxing treatments
*eyelash extensions
*spray tanning
*tinting

Now some people may reckon they don't go well together but In my opinion it's a win win situation...why go to one salon to have your colour done and then a other for your nails? When you can have both done in the one salon. I know the UK is very different to here and there is alot more competition.

There is nothing like this is my town and we have got so much good feed back about it all we can't wait to open the doors.

Gel nails are my money maker...
If you get a good last tech that's a brill one to

I agree with everyone above. One of my salons is in a small courtyard with a hairdressers next door and we share a lot of clients. I started nearly 20 years ago now, with a room in a hair salon and it really set me up as I started with hardly any regulars.

thought I'd just throw something in here...what do you enjoy doing? If you enjoy it you'll make money...

If two therapists are sharing a room at the same time, waxing won't work for you.
