Hi Selling my beautiful, professional electric spa couch / massage bed. Bought at the end of 2019, used for only 4 months before lockdown hit. It has been stored at my home salon so great condition. Selling very low price as require quick sale due to house move. PRICE: £350. Collection...

    Performing massage whilst pregnant

My strength disappeared when I was pregnant, strange isn't it! But as it's my most popular treatment and I'm self employed, I would do up to 5 massages per day, so just did what I felt was right for my body. I found that none of my regulars questioned it, and I stopped asking new clients if the...

    Renting out home salon

I've worked successfully from home, in my converted garage for 5 years. I'm currently on Maternity Leave, and wondering if renting it out would be an option? Its detached and separate from my house. I never did it when I had my last baby as I was too worried about who would be in there, and I...

    Natural skincare brand help

I'm looking to change from Eve Taylor, can anyone recommend a similar brand that sells natural skincare products for professionals / salons? I've been looking at Neals Yard and Pink & Green, but would be interested to hear from anyone who already uses these brands? Or uses an alternative? Thanks

    Bodyshop

Thank you. Needed to see the bigger picture that this is probably not going to be a long term venture for her - and I actually don't think she intents for it to be. So it is what it is. Like you say, just frustrating when you work hard, spend thousands on training, only to have people influenced...

    Bodyshop

I do know the training, because its my friends who are selling it. They are provided with courses on the products which I believe is very in-depth. However, the friend spouting off the skincare advice hasn't done any courses yet, Bodyshop sent out her starter pack without any training and are...

    Hot stones vs rose quartz

When I did hot stones in my NVQ, they also covered cold stones (marble) which is on my certificate and also covered on my insurance. So maybe a good idea to do a short course? My friend is trained in Gua Sha Facials. She uses stones a lot, rose quartz and jade. People love it.

    Bodyshop

Not so much a question but more of a rant I suppose. One of my friends in an at home Bodyshop Consultant Manager and does VERY well from it. She recently recruited one of our friends. This is a friend who knows NOTHING about skincare, makeup and products. She decided she wanted to give it a...

Microneedling-do you do it and is it popular?

HES is the most popular serum they sell as its a good all-rounder. Its anti-ageing and can be used for mesotherapy with the pen too - helps dehydrating and will plump the skin. But I find having all serums helps me sell a whole block of treatments. Clients love it when you can say that you are...

    Do you offer clients refreshments?

When I first opened I offered drinks and had a little tea / coffee station. But the busier I got, the more I found it just added to the very little time that I had. And then those clients expected a drink every time. So I slowly phased it out. I don't offer anything now (apart from water after...

    Kids in treatment room

I have it written on my booking form, that kids aren't allowed due to insurance reasons. The few times I've allowed it, its been a nightmare (even the well behaved ones) so I don't think its worth it. My best friend recently suggested coming for a massage and bringing her baby. Sounds harsh...

Do I need to do beauty level 3 or just courses?

I did fast track level 2 and 3, and this was far superior to one day courses that I've also done. It was hard work, as it was a 2 year course condensed in to 10 months! But it was really good quality training. I went on to work at a 5 star spa and they were pleasantly surprised at the level I...

    Body Shop parties

I've been approached recently too. I already retail so said no, but to be honest I wouldn't have said yes anyway, as the Bodyshop isn't a professional product range. I would also never do professional treatments using any Bodyshop products. As therapists we should be highlighting to our clients...

    Lava stone massage

I'm trained in both hot stones and lava shells. But since going self employed 4 years ago I ditched the lava shells. The heat activators are expensive. I also prefer that the traditional stones come in different sizes, whereas the shells are just one size ...maybe this has since changed? I love...

I use Cliniccare Painless Peel too!

    Treatwell?

I think people love it or hate it. I was with Treatwell for 2 years, which was just ok. It helped me get clients in, but I always had no shows and late cancellations from it, which used to drive me up the wall. Then they upped the pricing so I left and don't miss it to be honest. It worked out...

    Home/garden salon - toilet facilities

I converted my detached garage in to a studio, which doesn't had a bathroom. So if clients want the loo, they have to go in to my house. Although many don't ask, I have to be prepared in case that one person needs to go. It really isn't ideal: - as well as my studio, my house and bathroom have...

Training in hair or beauty at 30

I retrained in beauty age 30. Did level 2 and 3 back to back at the weekends. Then worked in a spa to gain experience. I now work from home, my work hours fit around my childcare. I've successfully had my own little business for 4 years and couldn't be happier. The industry is very flooded, so...

    Dermapen/dermaroller

I work from home. I charge £100 for just microneedling and £150 including pre-peel and LED Light (which is actually more popular!) Prior to microneeding the only skincare I offered were holistic facials and Microdermabrasion, all £45. So don't worry about that. Don't make the mistake of...

Microneedling-do you do it and is it popular?

I use the Genosys Deramfix Pen and their whole range of products too. I've tried a few brands and always go back to Genosys. I trained with Emma Coates, which I can highly recommend too. I've done a few courses with them and always happy and they offer continued support after training too.
