https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/advice-and-guidance/equality-law-hairdressers-barbers-and-beauty-salons "A beauty therapist who operates on her own and provides massages in clients’ own homes only provides this service to women. She believes the restriction is objectively justified and...

Business refusing service based on gender..

We're not under European Law anymore are we? In the UK that is. You've been in the resturant business Chriss87. I've been to 3 local restaurants and they only make vegetarian or vegan food, no meat on the menu at all, just like alot of places ive been only have meat options. To cater for only...

Business refusing service based on gender..

I have a salon, but work alone. I do massage, waxing etc. My customers are 98% women anyway, so nothing to worry about, BUT in the past I've had creepy guys in for massage, so now I refuse anyone who wasn't recommended, such a current customer son or husband etc would be fine. I've got my own...

What is going on with this wax?

Hey everyone, Have any of you used the Cirépil Tendre Coton strip wax? I don't know what the heck is going on with this wax but it wasn't good. I normally use crystal ocean and it's brill, but I thought id have a change. It brings the hair out (mostly) once you finally get the stuff off the...

    Masks from July 19th

Glad to see we all had similar thoughts. I know what you mean about aprons, theyre like being in a constant sauna, crazy hot with the full ppe kit on 🤒 I'll definitely be keeping masks then. Its rife here in County Durham at the moment and as it turned out, ive had to isolate this last 6 days...

    Masks from July 19th

Hey all, What's your thoughts about still wearing masks from July 19th and asking clients to do the same? I own a small salon and I work alone, so I can't afford to be off and I'm just weary that once summer ends, are we going to be back to those customers coughing and sneezing, coming in...

A pro asking a pro for an opinion

Do you have any tan on in that last pic? It's so deceiving in photos but personally looking at the first pic I can see the cool undertones in your skin, but you're one of those lucky people who could pull off both warm and cool for sure. You could wear a bluey red lipstick and a corally red and...

    Hive dual digital wax warmer

There's a certain temperature it won't go below as the wax wouldn't be hot enough to use, I think, is it 55 the lowest? If you're finding your wax too hot even at this setting, I'd maybe check with who you purchased it from, as it could be faulty. Room temperature does play a role in this and...

    Business interruption insurance - Covid

Hello Gigi, I found here in the UK my insurance wouldn't pay out (like most) as only those stipulated in the fine print of listed illnesses and diseases could be claimed for unfortunately. Luckily our government paid for the closures of some businesses, but some fell through the cracks if they...

Consent form for 12 year old

https://online.professionalbeautydirect.co.uk/blog/age-restrictions I guess it all comes down to insurance and their age restrictions, professional beauty say 14, but also whether the judgement is made if that the client is suitable for the treatment (and can sit still so the products don't go...

Consent form for 12 year old

We can take advice and follow procedures and practices but we aren't medical professionals nor should we be giving out medical advice u less qualified to do so. That is exactly what we're taught in training in NVQ Beauty Therapy. As a mother of a 12 year daughter and a fully qualified...

    Waxing black skin

Yeah definitely just buy one pot and see how it goes. It really is trial and error. After a few waxes it should get easier as long as they're not shaving in between wax appointments!

    Waxing black skin

What make of wax do you use? I've found it makes all the difference. I used to use PhD wax system, whilst its easy to use, it wasn't as effective at removing all the hairs. So I changed brand and I tried loads and settled at Cirépil Cristal Océan. If I'm doing legs I always use strip wax, but...

Wax brow graze injury help, not sure why?

I used to use strip wax and had this happen few times to a client that had been coming for years and always been fine. Think hormones was playing a big part in the issue. However, switching to hot wax all has been great again, so definitely worth a try.

    Spa/salon range, any recommendations?

Hi all, Im after some recommendations for my beauty salon, I was using Guinot and I do love their Hydradermie Lift etc, but I feel im ready for a change, as their products can be quite expensive to retail, or maybe im just not in love with brand anymore. I still use Environ, which is great for...

Any recommendations on a drill to remove dead skin from feet?

Thanks CFBS. I did go back to the good old fashioned rasp when the machine broke, and for the amount of fath setting the machine up, it's alot easier. I'll check out the callus peels thanks

    Lifting problem with gel nails

I had this same issue and it drove me crazy no matter what I did! I was using Jessica Geleration and the results were so varied, with some lasting more than 3 weeks and others less than one. The only way I resolved it was change brand. Ive used IBD just gel for 3 years now, it's half the price...
