    Self employed help

Why would a one off purchase of a chair by the renters entitle them to a permanent rent reduction???? That's absolutely ridiculous. Seems to me like they have been ganging up on you as you are so nice. Are they plotting a revolt?

Self employed beauty or nail tech earnings.

It is tough to remain open these days and by doing offers and promotions to bring in the cash reduces takings even more. I do all aspects of beauty and am really struggling. Clients' habits have changed. The Summer should improve the situation with clients' holidays but I don't bank on anything...

    +Maskology Photon LED Face Mask

Thankyou for the response. The price point of the above is not suitable for me although it looks a very good device. I am nearing the end of my career so it is too big a purchase. Second hand would be a good option for me now if I can source one.

    Lash lift - hooded lids

Small or extra small shields. I do tape the eyebrow up to stop the skin sagging down covering the lashes. They are hard to do I admit, but the effect is worth the extra effort.

    Starting up from scratch!

Hi EmLockz congratulations on your new business venture and welcome to the forum. First of all , you can use any product line that you want to as long as the source is from a recognised Beauty wholesaler. Open up a couple of accounts and try a few of their lines. You will need proof of business...

    +Maskology Photon LED Face Mask

Has anyone invested in this mask by +Maskology yet? It is relatively new to the market ,but the concept has been around for a few years. I just wondered if anyone has had good results. Has anyone had the treatment? Was it any good? My budget is limited as are my clients , so I am not wishing...

    Business name

Some excellent points raised by TheDuchess. "Renee's" is a good choice on its own. Or "Salon Renee" "Hair By Renee"

    Business models and location

Excellent advice from TheDuchess and congratulations on your new business venture. I live in a semi rural location but on a busy B road which makes finding my salon easier. The main issues that could potentially face you is that some clients may not want to or feel confident enough to travel...

Can I state no male clients?

Absolutely agree 100% with TheDuchess. A Ladies only service is your choice, it is your business, it is your safety and it is not a matter for anybody else to challenge it. I am not up for any negotiation and have no problem being firm about it. I have said no to a male wishing to receive...

    Electrolysis training

Hi Emmabubbles88, Welcome to the forum. I have had the most rewarding results with electrolysis during my career and I found that it was either something you loved doing or something you hated doing. It has stood the test of time and has many uses, so good on you. I can't comment on the...

Why has Shellac started chipping on long standing client?

Hi Bliss, I use IBX occasionally on delicate or damaged nails and I have not noticed it helping with the adhesion of gel products. It is not for adhesion , just a strengthening system. I buff more on some clients that are heavy handed, use rubber base and then builder base together on just one...

    Refusing client

Had several of these over the years and I found that even if you advise and suggest whatever you think is best , they will still choose to ignore you if that is not what they want to hear. They pay for what they want. Obviously if the treatment is a contra-indication and affects your insurance...

    Make massage client

I simply say.... "Sorry but I am not insured to treat men." I know I could do the treatment, but that is my get out. My choice entirely. Good luck Lashesbya.

UK insurance must-haves and any recommendations?

I would start by looking on this forum for potential insurers as previous members have given out their preferences over the years. I am with the FHT and have spent my whole career with them. As long as your qualifications are accredited by recognised training schools you will be welcomed by...

Opinions on Skinmate microdermabrasion & high frequency machines?

Hi mook, Welcome to the forum. Exciting to be launching your business. Don't spend a great deal at this stage just in case you are not as busy as you would like so being conservative is a safe bet. Look into PJS Beauty salon Equipment supplies as an alternative to Skinmate. I have their...

    Tightlacing/waist training

Hi Kemiy Try Intermittent fasting and cutting out carbs/sugar. I am not a fan of corsets , didn't do my Granny much good actually. Squeezing her internal organs.....Nah not good!

    Pedicure products

Cuccio, Nottingham if like me you are UK based. Their sales team is very friendly and experienced in the industry. Also I recently have had Hive mani/pedi products to try them out and I was pleased with the range. For me though they are not a patch on the Spa brand Cuccio.

    Eyebrow tint

Hi Paige, Just to add, I have a client with totally different eyebrow thicknesses on each eye. Imagine how weird it was that one day I noticed that one brow was looking so much lighter than the other one after tinting. We laughed about it at the time and I just added a tiny amount of black...

    Client Chair

Hi Herbie, Welcome to the forum. I can identify exactly with what you are saying if the client is in the wrong position. They want to slouch back because most people have dreadful posture and you then have to do all the over reaching which is painful. Educate them into sitting up properly...
