:( Well ladies I am in week 3 of a reaction to monomer...I think! dr said it's either contact dermatitis or eczema. Been given zerobase cream and eumovate steroid cream still no joy. Going to request allergy testing to see exactly what it is as it could be something else due to having some issues in other places x Hands are swollen and blistered :( quick question...is there a monomer that is good for allergies etc? I love acrylics and really don't want to give up any help greatly appreciated xx

Are you continually using acrylics even while on the doc medication? If so then the meds won't really help. You have to abstain completely.

I have an allergy to the actual soak off and calguard used by calgels which I abstained for 3 years and now can use it once a month or so but flares up fairly fast so best to avoid it.

My one friend found her allergy was related to sulfur and she was a chef, but in fact it was due to her skin being dehydrated all the time cos of washing hands so often. This could also be for us as therapists we wash our hands every half hour etc .

Another friend found her allergy was acrylics or so she thought and one day discovered she stopped eating nuts and it went away , even her dermatologist didn't diagnose it correctly initially (so yes go for tests I would)

Hiya, thanks for the reply sorry it's taken me so long to respond...bad week!!

I haven't touched acrylic or anything nail related for a week now. Started to see slight improvement but then flared up again yesterday. 2 of my fingers are blistered, back at drs today more steroid cream strongest one now. They don't have a clue! Could be nail related but maybe not as it's in my scalp and arms too. Dr said could be anything. Well thanks for that!! Gosh they are helpful! I asked for tests but he said wait and see?! So still in limbo xx

You could ask for a course of fexofenadine to help clear it up. It's an antihistamine mainly used to treat skin reactions.

My GP was brilliant and referred me for tests immediately when I said I though it was connected with work and it could affect my ability to make a living. I think you should go back and insist on a referral.

I'm allergic to acrylates and my symptoms are similar to asthma. It started off with itchy finger tips and then blisters developed. Not long after, it started to affect my breathing as I persevered by using nitrile gloves and barrier creams to no avail.

Hi long story sorry.... so I to started with contact dermatitis 3 years ago to the point of having no skin on hands and no fingerprint...! It was so painful and effected everything i did. Was on steroid cream, seeing a specialist, was using nitrile gloves too! No joy
Visited a new doctor and she advised me to use cotton gloves under nitrile because the nitrile can actually make it worse I didnt know this....
I started to do this for every appointment ; ( nail tech) and my hands have been perfect since .... takes a bit of getting used to but its amazing and it works I dont use any orher creams or steroids ever.... alao i avoid perfumed soaps I QV handwash
Btw I was about to give up my job :(
They are perfect again hope this helps and good luck ....

Hi ladies thank you for the replies tons more useful than my gp lol x

sammi010 I will defo ask my dr about this, I've never heard of it before thank you!

Aw AcidPerm I feel for you I have difficult asthma so know where you're coming from with the breathing issues and you're right I will definitely push for that referral my drs are always reluctant to do or give anything for example when I rang the other day the receptionist (lovely woman :p) told me I was wasting my time as unless I was suffering from a life threatening emergency (in which case why would I not go to hospital?!?!) then I needn't bother ringing because they are busy! Sorry for the rant lol x

Thanks potsylass for giving me some hope was starting to feel a bit glum if I'm honest. I will defo be getting some cotton gloves for under the nitrile gloves :) dr has given me some skinnies (gloves to wear at night ) so fingers crossed!

I'm starting to wonder if it is the acrylic...I gel polished my toes last night and now my poor little tootsies are all red and sore?? I'm going to take it off in the morning...please let it be one or the other but not both...I couldn't cope!!

Thanks again x and sorry for the mega post!! Xx
