Ok, So i'm just about to complete NVQ level 2 beauty, i've obtained my diploma in spray tanning & nail technician already.

I work from home anyway as a claims hanlder for a insurance company (on a self employed basis so im my own boss)

& have been doing treatments from home through word of mouth & flyers etc.

I'm not busy enough with my claims handling stuff but not getting the access to clients at home, so I've thought, why not combine the two.

ie rent a room in a busy gym or hair salon where i can work from my desk/counter when not busy, and carry out treatments as well.

Firstly what's your opinion on this- good idea/bad idea?

Secondly am i ok to set up with just level 2 & tans & nails?
(i'll be doing level 3 + indian head massage courses later in the year so will add to my range of treatments) I feel like a very competent therapist but as i will be on my own what are your opinions on this.

Finally, set up costs. I have alot of equipment, but no doubt there will be quite a bit more to buy and I will need an advertising budget for the gym/salon, is a business loan from the bank the best way to go about this.

I also need advice on a good facial range that wont cost me the earth to set up- any recommendations (im based in northern ireland)

thankz for any advice/opinions you can offer.

you'd just have to be careful with client confidentiality, so perhaps have your computer and work desk behind an attractive screen so when clients come in they don't feel as if they are in an office.

thanks, well it would be no different than a till i would have thought, i will have a proper counter with appt book, til & just the laptop there too. Im pretty paperless anyway. Oh it would definately look like a salon!

Any ideas re facial ranges?

I use gerard's and love it!

the facial ranges have been discussed before, so if you use the SEARCH button above you can read previous discussion. its a very popular question.

Hi

I use the Skin Truth range in my salon, find it very good. They have a quite a good range of everything you need for facials. They also do manicure and pedicure ranges. Its not that expensive you should be able to get at sallys.

Helloooo!

I think it sounds like a great plan!

I'm kind of in a similar position to yourself - I work pt time in an office and pt time Beauty Therapy (I'm mobile).

I am VCTC Level 2 qualified and had no probs setting up on my own - you are fine for insurance etc.

Re set up costs - I guess that can depend on the products you choose to use/how you are going to advertise - it can be kept to a minimum - I designed my own treatment list/did leaflet drops/attended some pamper evenings in local town (great for meeting new clients & networking)

As for skin care range - I use Eve Taylor and love it - I think this is now available in n.Ireland as well.

Hope that helps??!

Good luck.x

Thanks for all your help guys,

I've requested info on eve taylor, gerards and monu

For those of you who use eve taylor, i see they do a small sample start up pack with just 50ml bottles for less than £100,

would this be a good purchase to try out all the products?
