Client records are they mine being self employed or the salon owner?

I am self employed, I was in a salon with 40/60% split. Now I'm currently going to another salon where I'll be renting a chair.
However the salon I was in, the owner is threatening me with data protection act, because I have taken my clients record cards. I thought because I am self employed I have every right to take those cards with my clients permission? Also because I was told to leave unexpectedly, I had clients booked in that week and they were going to follow me after I had gone, so for example I had a client booked in, I already took card home she did say I could, but because she was booked in for her colour she did still go in there, I took a pic of what she had done and sent it her, not anyone else but her, is that data protection act?

Not if it's your client and you're self employed. Are the client cards your physical property before you wrote on them? Or were they the salons?
