Hi - I did a year long course at night in Scotland 5 years ago - it covered natural nails, pedicures, acrylics extensions and sculptured. My day job as a secretary took off so didnt have time to pursue it.

My circumstances have changed now and Im part time in the office but would like to start doing nails again on days I dont work.

I was good at the natural nails etc (per teacher) but not great at extensions.

I recently had a calgel treatment and was so impresed I am going to do their course.

What I would like to know is do I have enough services to offer people as a start off? and then maybe build up? Im qualified in some holsitic treatments but I dont think there will be a cross over?? Not sure so will welcome any advise?

Hi,

Im in scotland, I started just doing nails at night after my full time job and pub job. I done this for few years and then once i had my girl who is 3 i decided to do nails part time and give up all other work as it fitted in better with her and the hours i do and money i make i couldnt get that in an offer. (self employed) I rent space in a hair dresser 3 days.

I now do nails, tanning and jjust recently done eyelash extension. So nails, manicure and pedicure is fine. I dont know much about cal gel but i think its better to offer acrylic and gel eventually.

Hope ive helped a bit.

Good luck

So you'd be offering manicure and pedicure for starters then, and you say you do a few holistic treatments? Which ones do you do?

It's not as if you're going to chuck in your job, just start working for yourself on the days you're not in the office. I would go for it.

And get hold of a nail trainer and practice like mad, go through all your course info, research and look out info on this site . . . it's a shame to do a year long course and then not be confident enough to offer the treatment. good luck x

Thanks for your replies they are really helpful and also encouraging. I absolutely loved the nail course but my office job took off and I worked really long hours so never took it further. Ive been looking to do calgel for the last 6 weeks and when I had them done I just couldnt believe how nail system could be kinder to your nails and there are so many people that dont know calgel type of treatments exist. I know I am really out of touch nail wise so Ive started looking on this site and its brilliant. Im glad to see Dee77 you have went through what I have (I think my mum thinks this isnt a great idea). The problem I had was people didnt give you any cash for doing their nails and you still have to buy some products. I am going to do as you say Blossom and really hammer a nail trainer (I think I get that in the Calgel course work but If I dont I will purchase one). Ive got my Reiki II, Thai foot massage, Hopi Ear Candling - yes u guessed it - i cant make up my mind what I want to do. I did have the opportunity of doing a intensive beautician course as I thought I was being made redundant but I couldnt commit to it at that time.
