The next generation of hairdressers have all the education they need literally at their fingertips with the launch of a pioneering interactive online training programme from Ambition Centre for Training (ACT), the innovator of partnership education in hairdressing.

ACT:ONline, which is tied directly to Habia’s new standards and new framework, covers all the formative and summative assessment requirements of hairdressing qualifications and is customised for each awarding body. It allows trainees to log on to learn their craft at their own pace and in their own time, with a fully comprehensive e-Learning training and assessment package available on any device they choose, from laptop to tablet and even on their smartphone.

The fully accredited web-based courses will build towards Level 1, 2 and 3 Hairdressing, Personal Presentation, Skills for Work, Creativity, Make-up Skills and Cosmetology, and promise to increase access and engagement, making education fun and exciting for young people who have grown up in a digital world.

ACT:ONline can run alongside and enhance traditional educational approaches, allowing trainees or college students to access their personal training area whenever they want, picking up where they left off, even if it was on another device. Highly interactive and often in games-based format, it uses fun and challenging activities to promote independence and encourage trainees to take responsibility for their own learning. Users can make the most of spare moments throughout their day and work through courses at their own speed and without fear of judgment from their peers.

"Young people coming into hairdressing today are digital natives; technology is part and parcel of everything they do, so it’s time education caught up with that reality," said Lynda McGivern, director of the award-winning training supplier, that specialises in a shared approach to in-salon education. "Textbook-only learning belongs in the stone age. Teenagers now are adept at accessing the various digital platforms and we fully expect our e-Learning programme to help them integrate their hairdressing education into the rest of their lives."

As well as improving access for young trainees, ACT:ONline allows assessors to monitor progress of individual students and alerts them instantly to any gaps in learning.
