hair extension question

Im looking at getting the clip in extensions,and im also well overdue to get my regrowth done (im blonde)and a hair cut.Am i better off getting my hair coloured first then go buy the extensions?,or should i get extensions first and then get my hair dyed to match the colour?

Sorry if its such a stupid question,everyone i know who has extensions has dark hair,they just buy the extensions then put a hair dye through their own hair and the extensions so they match.I know with extensions you cant lighten them....
