Owners of two salons in Brentford have been fined for hiring unlicensed therapists to perform treatments on clients. Brentford Nails and The Nail Salon on Brentford High Street were fined over £4000 by the council after check revealed that they weren't complying with the terms and conditions of their special treatment licence.

Tin Van Nguyen of Brentford Nails was fined £1857, and Mai-Ly Bui of The Nail Salon was ordered to pay £2410, at the case hearing at Feltham Magistrates Court on June 30.

“People using these salons are putting their health and wellbeing into the hands of the therapists, and have a right to expect treatments to be carried out by competent and qualified staff," explained Councillor Richard Foote, cabinet member for community protection at the council.

“The licensing regime is there to protect customers from potential serious harm, and we will not hesitate in taking action against those who think the rules don’t apply to them. I’m pleased the court has taken strong action, and I hope it sends a signal to anyone else who puts their own profits above the health, safety and welfare of people.”

The unlicensed workers were discovered following unannounced inspections by the council. According to the council beauty salons must apply for a special treatment licence and a condition of the licence is therapists must be trained and qualified to reduce the risk of injury or infection.

Until then...geek on!
