Last night saw the nail industry come together to celebrate the best of the best as voted for by the industry itself. The Scratch Star Awards 2014 took place at Cafe de Paris in central London and were hosted by the delectable Rick Edwards.

After joking about being under strict instructions from his girlfriend to bag as much free polish as possible, Rick got the proceedings underway (full list of winners below). Special mentions have to go to Kirsty Meakin who won Nail Stylist of the Year and dedicated her award to her aunt who died earlier in the week. The wonderful Sarah Marr held on to her award for Manicurist of the Year for the second year running and Bodylines salon in Kent, owned by the gorgeous Liza Smith, took home Nail Salon of the Year.

The end of the night saw the Alex Fox, on behalf of the Scratch Team announce the winner of the Tom Holcomb Shooting Star award. The award goes to an individual, decided on by the Scratch Team, who has made waves in the industry. This year, the award went to Anna Lee, CND Education Ambassador and all round determined tech on a mission to integrate the SEA nail population with the rest of the industry.

Anna Lee has worked hard for years now to get the industry to recognise the skills of south east asian nail techs and try to find a route for them into education. She fights tirelessly against the prejudice many have for 'discount' salons and the award recognised her ongoing struggle.

A great night was had by all and it was a worthy, glitzy, fabulous celebration of an industry that's still blazing the trail.

Until then...geek on!
