Ombre nails first attempt advice please xx

Hey guys,

This was my first attempt at ombre nails tonight but I found I kept getting streaks where the additives just weren't sticking... Any ideas? I made sure the foundation coat completely covered the nail too. Sorry if I'm sounding so stupid!!

Could your brush be too hard? It may be taking the inhibition layer off which would stop it sticking. I use an eyeshadow brush and dust off with a blusher brush x
