Are there any East Anglians out there (LIncs/Cambs/Hunts/Norf/Suff/Essex) who find there are very few company trainers out there? Not being specific - nor being critical - but for instance if you want CND where do you go? If you want Nouveau Beauty, where do you have to go?

There's lot of training SCHOOLS but I'm talking about specific products. I seem to see lots of training in Manchester and London (obviously) but this side of the country doesn't get the big companies out here. (Yes. I also know there aren't any motorways except the M11 to Cambridge). If you're based in GREAT YARMOUTH, LOWESTOFT, LINCOLN, IPSWICH, NORWICH etc etc, do you find it a pain to get to training?

I've got to go to Cheshire for a BIAE course next week, and Surrey for a SPMU course in September. Nothing ever seems to be within a two hour drive...

If you had a wish list, WHO and WHAT would you like to train with in this region???

It's the same in the south west

It depends what you are looking for. Electrolysis and Semi permanent make up are very specific treatments, so to do the first rate training I would expect to travel. I am in Norfolk and am going on a clinical massage course in Brighton. There are CND educators based in Lincolnshire and in Peterborough and you can train with Eve Taylor in Peterborough and Dermalogica in Cambridge ( A couple of examples).

It is a shame quality professional training isn't as accessible as we would always like, but I personally would always travel for good training. I worked in the Channel Islands and always travelled to London and the South East to do professional courses.

xx :0)

I'm in Lincoln & did my Bio Sculpture training in Gainsborough but they aren't a training salon any more so my nearest is Wakefield. As someone else has said there is a CND trainer somewhere in Lincs. Pompadour in Lincoln also offers courses from their wholesaler but with product companies so Graftons for IBD, there are lashes offered but can't remember who with etc etc.

Thanks ladies. Even from the dearth of replies, I get the feeling we are an under represented part of the country. More sugar beet than people - and similar for the south west (my cousins are near Tor Point)....

Perhaps we should have a little East Anglian (and Norfolk specifically for the six-fingered folk) group on here?

I will bear all your comments in mind but would like to hear more...as I've been looking into offering CIDESCO quals.... Call me old-fashioned, but I like the idea of external examiners and end papers....

I have CIDESCO, I think it is a great qualification for a therapist to have. I believe the college in kings lynn is a CIDESCO school it is one of around 13 schools based in the UK (not sure if I have the correct figure) it would be nice to see more training available in east Anglia and less of the one day diploma courses x

If you're talking about College of West Anglia, it looks like they do the usual NVQ routes (awards and diplomas). I don't think the FE colleges would take CIDESCO (thought I might be wrong) as it's not the least expensive to do (as you will know, Lores).

There IS a CIDESCO college in Sawston, Cambs.

I like the look of the system because their quals are recognised by Ofqual (so are industry standard) and, as a provider, you can offer the awards, certificates, diplomas - OR your own qual, but which is sitll accredited and examined by CIBTAC. My special area of work is skin care so I'm interested in advanced skills (such as electricals) and the Level 4 subjects. I think they only use CTLLS and DTLLS as tutors.....
How big was your class? Could you pm with more info? I'd be really grateful - or we could drive up to the coast one day!

I trained at Saltash college which is now Cornwall College. If I remember there were about 10 or 12 of us. Not all of us passed, I think two ladies failed and would have to retake the following year. I qualified in 1996. It was tough and the examiner was very hard and had travelled from Finland to verify the practical exams. If you go on the CIDESCO UK website they should list the UK based schools. Your skincare specialism sounds great. I would love to get back into the skincare side as currently I do more massage and nails. I do remember when we were at college our beauty was taught by beauty lecturers and our chemistry, biology and a&p was taught by science lecturers. x

Our Btec was the same - beauty taught by beauty tutors, a&p, nutrition & all the sciency bits taught by a science tutor & business & marketing taught by a business tutor. That was at Lincoln College but not sure if they still do btec anymore.
