Do you think you have to have completed a level 3 qualification to be a good/successful Therapist?

I'm currently studying my level 2 beauty therapy at college but unfortunately am unable to do level 3 due to it being a day time only course and I can't afford to give up work. I'm passionate about being a good therapist and plan to do some accredited courses to further my skills but do worry I won't get taken seriously as a therapist without the level 3.

I'd love to hear your success stories if you only started out with a level 2 qualification.

Doing level 3 doesn't make you a better therapist/stylist. But it does make you more employable.

You have more experience and more things you SHOULD be capable of.

If you aren't able to do level 3 right now, go get a job/volunteer in a salon build up your skills and do your level 3 as an NVQ alongside.

In hairdressing I believe level 3 is supposed to be after you've done a year/couple years on the salon floor.

I only did my Level 2 Beauty because I knew I would be working for myself, setting up my own business. I also knew I didn't want to go down the massage / spa route. I've now been running my own (successful) business for 6 years, adding to my qualifications with Advanced / Intimate waxing qualifications, specialist facials etc. However.... If I was planning to work in a salon / Spa / Cruise ships etc I probably would've gone on to do my Level3, to make sure I had the best chance of getting a good job. I also did 1 day a week in a local salon when I first graduated (on a work experience basis) to improve my salon knowledge and get some industry experience behind me. I think it very much depends on what you're planning to do with your career. Hope that helps :) x

That's really helpful, thank you. My aim is to work on a mobile basis alongside my non beauty job, in order to build up experience and a client base with a view to eventually work from home or continue mobile on a full time basis. Xx

To answer the title of this post, qualifications don't = success. It's just one aspect, the quality of your work is the most important thing.
