Salon Standards Abroad for an Aspiring NY Stylist

I am a current student in New York at the Aveda Institute for cosmotology. I will be taking the state licensing exam sometime in January but am contemplating career options and would like to know what the standards are like in the UK. In the US each state sets their own standard and individuals must be licensed to practice in each state. Is it similar abroad? Does anyone know the Legality of Salon work????
