Hi everyone, i am new to the site so hope i am doing this correctly. I am considering changing career - i would love to specialise in nails, becoming a mobile therapist. The problem is i'm terrified of taking achance and going for it! At the moment i am in a relatively well paid job, with lots of security, but it is just a job. Whenever i met a therapist, they all seem to enjoy their work so much. I know long hours will be required, but i am expecting this. I' d love to hear from anyone that took a chance and made the move!

Thanks!

Hi Hayley

I too was the same as you. I worked in a very well paid but highly stressful job in Canary Wharf for years and decided to pack it in to go back to college full time.

I opened my home based salon last year and absolutely love what I do.

I'd be lying if I said at some point in the two years training I didnt miss the money but its been worth it. I was lucky enough to have great support from my husband and family and my family life has benefited and we are all much happier.

I can't tell you to go for it because I don't know your personel circumstances but for me, I'm so glad I made the change.

Good luck to you whatever you decide.

H xx

Thanks Heather, i'm certainly going to look into it further!

Why take a risk at all? The best solution would be to keep your employed job and do nails evenings and weekends. Over time, Hopefully, your confidence and customers will grow until a time comes when you can quit you office job and take up beauty therapy full time ;).

I'm with Jes on this one. For every success story where you find a happy therapist earning a good wage doing something they enjoy there are plenty of others who have struggled & failed, and even those who have succeeded have often undergone quite some struggle.

Unless you are financially secure & can afford to possibly earn nothing for a few months then I'd do the course whilst holding down you job & do the nails weekends & evenings. It will be hard, but if you succeed it will be worth it!

Thanks everyone. I think your right. I'm definately going to go for it. Even found a course thats run at the weekend!! I'm getting quite excited at the prospect of getting started!
