Garage conversion

Hi all, I'm considering converting my garage into a salon,
I currently rent a room above a hairdressers,
just wondering from those with experience that have done this on regulations, business rates etc on steps I have to follow to make it all above board,
Any advice would be greatly appreciated xx

You need to contact your local council to get their advice. Unfortunately different councils have different rules so it varies around the country. I think a general rule is that if the space can also be used as a family area then business rates won't apply, but as I said each council will be different so give them a call and they'll let you know.

I've just converted my garage. The council were brilliant & very helpful, they gave me the full go ahead without the need of planning & registered my business but not charging me business rates! Good luck, hope it all goes well x
