Just when you thought we may have seen the last of Jon Bon Jovi-style bouffant, the stats roll in suggesting that the 80s styling staple - hair mousse - is back with a bang.
The 80s was all about big, no scratch that, massive hair and despite the crunch-factor, mousse was the way to get the look. When the 90s kicked in and the like of Gwyneth Paltrow sported a sleeker, sexier look, it looked like mousse would be relegated to your grannies bathroom cupboard for ever...and most of us probably thought that was the best place for it.
Not any more. Chief Commercialisation Officer of R&D at Living Proof (the company with Jennifer Aniston at its helm) says it back and back for good. "We realised mousse was a perfect delivery system for our thickening technology." Living Proof's Full Thickening Mousse is one of the company's best sellers and they're not the only ones. Redken revealed that its Guts 10 mousse is the brand's best seller too and Oribe just release not one but three specialised mousses.
So, love it or hate it, mousse is back but it doesn't mean you have to look like an extra from Dynasty. The experts reckon that mousse is making a comeback because it's pretty darn useful. It provides real volume, it's light and won't weigh hair down, it plays nicely with other products meaning your can use it as a styling base and squirt and spritz other products on top without build up, it can give hair texture too and it fights frizz.
Come back mousse...perhaps all is forgiven.
Until then...geek on!
