Lady came for a full set few weeks ago and had her infills done 6 days ago and has just said to me she has gone to another salon and apparently that salon has told her I have used too much glue and done a poor application. Apparently my glue is superglue (lashbase i use) client is adamant that she deserves a refund and compensation for the new set she has received but I have said no you should of come back to me and her answer was she was too scared to. Not quite sure what to do as she said she is going to sue me but I’m not sure how as I have followered correct procedures?

Tell her to sue you then.
She won’t because she has no legitimate grounds to bring a case against you. Even if you did the worlds worst application, she has no case in law.

Crazy lady. No photos no proof just her saying that {which are lies} I wouldn't refund either

Yea I did ask for photos and she said I haven’t got them but the new salon has proof and they will back me up. I said to her you left happy on the 2 occasions you came to me and only now 6 days later after infills you are getting back to me? My trainer said there is nothing to worry about but I feel so anxious and paranoid about doing eyelashes now :(

Yea I have said to her to get a solicitor and forward on to me as apparently I haven’t done anything wrong (except forgot to do patch test first time she came) but she isn’t moaning about soreness or anything and cane back to infills and I have pictures of my application and they don’t look like I’ve used to much glue. I just wasn’t sure what would happen if I did get a letter like would I get done? Been doing this for 3 months and I’ve had this already and it’s really knocked me down x

We don’t have any National licensing regulations covering hair & beauty in the UK unlike the US.
That means anyone can set up as a lash tech, nail tech, hairdresser etc. and be completely unqualified, have had no training whatsoever, have no insurance and do a really rubbish job and providing they don’t cause actual physical harm to to the client, the client has absolutely no comeback in law.

It’s known in legal terms as caveat emptor or buyer beware.

Some local councils are requiring salons to be licensed with them by paying a fee and having their premises inspected BUT there is still no comeback for the client if the therapist/technician does a really poor job.

Equally, there are a few despicable clients who once they’ve had a reasonable service will still use underhand means such as posting derogatory statements on social media in order to bully the therapist into refunding the full cost of the treatment. They’ve worked out that they can have nice nails, hair, lashes etc. and later on recoup the money they’ve spent to then use for something else.
If you get one of these clients, don’t enter into any discussion with them, screen shot any unpleasant posts and save them, then block them on socia media and ban them from your salon.

Thanks I currently work from home and I do have insurance etc but I’m just worried that I’m going to have to go court over something so small? I’ve done everything correctly from what I was trained. The fact the lady has gone else where to sort her eyelashes out surely I can’t get done for anything? Except I did forget the patch test but she isn’t complaining about that only the ‘poor application’ although she messaged me straight after treatment saying thanks and had already booked for 2 weeks time.

It may be worth just putting a condition in your t&c’s that no eye treatment is to be carried out before a patch test is done prior to appointment (however long your insurance states). That way you always know the patch test is done, you can’t forget because it just comes part and parcel of getting a new client for an eye treatment and you’re completely covered [emoji2] hope it all goes okay for you, it doesn’t sound like she’s got a leg to stand on regarding the refund xx

Yea I always do patch test her and her friend were the only time I didn’t do patch test as was last minute and they have always had eyelashes so I done it as she was desperate. I’ve said no to the refund as she has been elsewhere and hasn’t actually proved to me how bad her eyelashes were. She just said she saw a lash specialist (another salon) and they have said I’ve done poor application and used superglue and they have all the evidence. When I asked for pictures she said they have them and thought she would give me a chance to refund me before she reports and sues me. Told her to go ahead as in my eyes I haven’t done anything wrong? Only thing I didn’t do was a patch but she isn’t complaining about her eyes as she came back for infills.

Did she say the specific reason she wants to sue? If she’s just not happy with the treatment or products you use what exactly is it she’s not happy with? If it’s because someone told her you used superglue does she know what they based this on? You can prove that you use lash glue and not superglue. And who decides how much glue is too much? Maybe the other salon uses too little?
Well done for standing up to her. She won’t have a leg to stand on if you followed all the correct procedures.

She basically said you either refund me or I’ll report you. Myself and my friend Are not happy with your lashes... her friend hasn’t said anything to me and her friend actually liked her infill pic saying lovely girl lovely lashes after 12 days of her friend actually having a full set so it sounds like that’s a lie. Although friend hasn’t come back to me but I understand that everyone doesn’t come back to you for whatever reasons. This is what I don’t understand she came for a full set (without a patch as she was desperate so done it for her and friend as one off) and then 2 weeks later came for infills and after she left for infills she already pre booked to come back for 2 weeks time. I always make sure clients are left happy and she also gave me a tip. Ok I understand I am in the wrong and I might get told off for the patch but regarding the eyelashes it just sounds like she has gone to this salon 6 days later after my infills and they have bad mouthed me and she came running back demanding compensation and a refund and I said no as there is no proof and she said her salon has pictures so I asked please may I see them and she said I ‘ they have them I told them I’d speak to you before reporting you and give you a chance’ ... so I’m not sure if she gonna suee Or what as the last thing I said was basically saying I’m sorry your not happy with your eyelashes but as you have gone elsewhere so you can forward anything your not happy with your solicitor & I can’t give a refund and she said I am fraud and she will speak to her solicitor and report me. So I know o have done everything fine it’s just the patch that worries me but I know her eyes were fine as I saw her for infills.

Thanks for the reply I feel a lot better as I have been worried all week x

Tell her you’re more than happy to remove her lashes for free if she doesn’t like them and then refund her. Sometimes it’s better to just get rid of clients like that, but don’t let her have your lashes for free! X

She has gone to a different salon and has admitted that it cost her £60 to get them rectified. I told her she should of come to me if she had any problems but she said she was too scared to. So I don’t even know what’s happened with her lashes as she has gone elsewhere to get them sorted and they have obviously said bad stuff about me so now she is asking for w refund and compensation.

Refunding clients when you haven’t actually done anything wrong just to get rid of them is not recommended business practice.
If that’s your solution to dealing with difficult clients (of which there will always be a few) then you have to ask yourself if you’re really cut out for self employment.

So she is apparently too scared to tell you she's unhappy but not too scared to ask for a refund and to threaten to sue - bulls&!t

Yea I don’t really understand it! I’ve only been doing this a few months and I’ve already had to deal with this problem! Just wanted advice to see if I done the right thing x

Wow judgemental you know absolutely NOTHING about me! If she won’t let you fix them then I’d certainly not give a refund without removing. It’s a well known FACT some clients simply complain to get free treatments. If she was “too scared” she wouldn’t be coming back at all and certainly not claiming a law suit.

Ah I didn’t realise the other salon apparently ‘fixed’ them, in that case you did the right thing. No refund. It’s bad practice on their part to not get her to return to you first. Nothing will come of it. I wouldn’t worry.

Thank you everyone for being reassuring! I was really worried and nervous about everything it’s mainly the whole patch test and I thought she may have brought hay up if anything happened but that’s again everyone. X

Have you any idea how much it costs to take someone to court? A lot more than a set of lashes that's for sure! Don't worry about it, it's just bullying tactics and even if she did (which she won't) there is nothing that the courts would do, you haven't done anything wrong and there is no evidence anyway xx
