I have thought about the practical side of things.

Have you tried to price car insurance for the van or tried to find out how much more your treatment insurance is going to be because your doing treatments in a van?

I know the car insurance side of it is going to be awkward as an adapted van will be hard to insure, there are companies that specialise in this type of insurance but I bet it will be pricey.

Also I'm sure you would need extra public liability/indemnity insurance to cover all your equipment/products on the van which I would guess at not being cheap either.

i'm 23 and my van insurance is £1000 a year and thats only because I got a 'special deal', my car insurance used to be £300.... also my van tax is £210, my car tax used to be £35!

wow, this is such an amazing idea....

It's like the episode in friends with phoebe"the relaxi taxi".... well kind of...

i think its a genius plan...i want a van now!!

good luck!

Jeez my car insurance is over £500 and that's only with class 1 business use and 20 years having my licence and over 10 years NCB. God knows how much the van would cost if you needed full business use.

just called the lady from beauty on wheels just to get a bit advice etc..and she wouldnt give me it lol..she said shes trying to patent the idea so no-one else can copy(even though theres already a company doing it lol!!) plus i'm nowhere near her..i'm in scotland lol..very abrupt on the phone..really dont see how she can patent an idea that someone else has already thought of!!

How silly ...people have been doing this for years such as on film sets , festivals etc. You can't patent something a business model that lots of other people are already using. Silly woman does she not realise there is enough room for everyone , it just means we all have to work harder and the cream rises to the top.

Instead of like a van van, what about a motor home/caravan thing lol!? You'd have sinks an everything fitted a good space to do treatments, a put up table for nails etc, a bed for you to sleep in if you did festivals etc..... Fit an awning (sp?) to the side for spray tans etc it would be epic!!
Xxx

I was just thinking this, just spoken to my husband and if things go to plan I will let you ladies know and put a few photo up here.

Its a good idea, its been around a few yrs .... There's a company who kits vans out for tans I think its called The Tan-van !!! ... x

:)There is also a bus conversion, looks lovely onestopbeautybus.co.uk

When I told a friend I was looking into mobile beauty he thought that I would be travelling around in a motor home to treat people, after laughing at him I thought actually what a genius idea!

I love the idea of the beauty bus too, it looks great.

I think this is a fantastic idea for festivals and events, but this is a huge expense for all the reasons already mentioned, and this needs to pay for itself for the rest of the year too so you'd need to think about how you would make that work.

Lots of mobile clients choose to have their treatments at home because they like the privacy - are they going to be the sort of clients that like a big van pulling up outside their house advertising to all their neighbours that they're having treatments done? I know for sure some of my clients would be put off by that.

Parking in private roads is a nightmare at the best of times mobile appointments will be more difficult.

Although everything will be with you, you'd still need to set up and pack away each time like a normal mobile appointment so as not to smash everything when you turn a corner.

What if a client turns up with a friend - will they fit in?

Would you local council have any restrictions?

It's a great novelty idea and the fun aspect of it would get you some pamper parties I'm sure but you need to think about your bread and butter, day to day client base.

I love this idea, we have a barber shop van in our area
