Hiya!

Thank you opening my thread ! x

I have been in beauty/nails for about 8 years always working for some else granted i have made good money and had amazing opportunities but id like to risk it on my own, my friends have all been successful with regular clients and early a good steady wage renting beauty rooms/nails stations

I have offered a place at a lovely salon close to home, good hours and set prices on nails which i specialise in BUT its a self employed position, on 50/50% on daily takings. i would be doing nails all day Tues-Sat.

When the beauty therapist is off on Sundays I can do beauty clients if so wish to work the extra day for more money

ATM they also do no lashes there so I will be offering an extra service.

what are your experiences on this?

thank you
NatalieLaura

Hi Natalie, I have a self employed therapist and we work on 50/50 too. I have worked in a salon prior to this and I used to have to pay a set £15 a day plus 50/50 on treatments I done.

If you were working for an hourly wage prior, I can imagine it will be a big change as you aren't guaranteed a set wage!

I know many salons work on a 60/40 so 50/50 is better 😊 x

I may ask for 60/40 til I have my regulars in

I just left somewhere doing 50/50 because the money was not worth it! She promised me clients & didn't get me any. She put my prices up but I was still getting rubbish money, I can get more working from home on a Saturday so that's what I'm doing now x

It all depends who is paying for the products. The general rule seems to be 60/40 with the higher percentage going to the person supplying the products.

Also you should not be paying a percentage AND rent as above. Bad form.

I think it's also worth pointing out here that if you are self employed YOU set your prices and working hours not the salon owner.

This is what I'm currently doing. If I don't have clients I don't get paid this can be frustrating in the quieter months as it can seem pointless being there but you have set days you nee to be there
