Advice please - which hair colour

I'm an aveda fan but recently heard that oil based are best for hair. Is this nonsense? Want something very shiny that stays shiny. Aveda does this but tends to fade. Thanks.

Sorry, I meant to say... I recently had my hair cut off so pretty much virgin hair now.
