Eco beauty brand, Aveda, are definitely a brand with a conscience. In aid of the current global water crisis, Aveda is raising funds and awareness with its annual Earth month Auction and Gala Dinner on 22nd April 2013.

Celebrity TV presenter Laura Whitmore enjoyed an evening with Aveda salon owners and representatives at London's Kensington Roof Gardens. Christie's auctioneer, Kate McKenzie, who kindly donated her expertise, led a charity auction with holidays, champagne dinners, sports tickets and beautiful designer accessories all up for grabs and donated complimentary.

"Now in its fourteenth year", explaines Aveda's General Manager Darren Potter, Aveda Earth Month raises funds and awareness for environmental projects around the world. Since 1999, the Aveda network has raised more than £26 million to help support organisation that directly affect environmental chance. Since 2006, $16 million of this amount has been earmarked for water-related causes.

This year's Aveda Gala Dinner supported the UK based charity Water Aid, which reaches out to underprivileged communities across the globe who are in need of safe and clean water. Laura Whitmore made a heartfelt speech in support of Aveda's mission.

"I'm delighted to be supporting the fantastic work of Water Aid through Aveda's Earth Month. It's absolutely shocking that one in ten people across the world don't have access to safe, clean water and that 2000 children still die every day from diseases caused by drinking dirty water. This is unacceptable, and is the reason why initiatives like Earth Month are so important as they help Water Aid bring clean water to more people, transforming their lives forever."

Water Aid ambassador, Rachel Stevens, explained, "As a Water Aid ambassador, I've seen first-hand how the charity transforms lives by helping communities access safe, clean water - health improves, children can go to school and women have more time to earn their own money, becoming independent, valued members of society. It's great that Aveda Earth MOnth is supporting such a fantastic cause and helping even more people to get access to this vital resource."

Until then...geek on!
