BABTAC (British Association of Beauty and Cosmetology) member, Dr Katerina Steventon, PhD. MSc. has joined the panel of the AcnePSP (Acne Priority Setting Partnership). Katerina was chosen as a representative for the leading membership organisation, to promote the re-evaluation of acne treatment research priorities. Various campaigns are forming the largest cross-profession survey of acne, providing important information for the industry, whilst supporting sufferers across the UK.

AcnePSP aims to bring together people who suffer with acne along with every profession that treats it; to review unanswered questions and fill in any gaps in existing research and treatments. The first steps the partners are taking involves a survey, whereby individuals that are directly and indirectly affected by the skin problem are invited to share their thoughts and experiences. Acne PSP believes that by including BABTAC, they have ensured that beauty therapists and cosmetologists are not overlooked in the medical treating of acne, nor the research; giving sufferers understandable and complete information about the condition.

Carolyne Cross, Chairman of BABTAC says, “BABTAC is delighted to be partnered with AcnePSP to contribute to prioritising research into acne treatment. At BABTAC we aim to develop and maintain high standards of treatment in the beauty industry and hope that through this partnership, the public voice can shape future medical research. As professionals, beauty therapists are quite often the first point of contact from the public who have concerns and questions regarding their acne; frequently looking for guidance, support and help. We are committed to the wellbeing of consumers and understand how influential acne can be on their lives; so it is imperative that beauty therapists are experts in all areas surrounding this condition. BABTAC is extremely supportive of AcnePSP and too shares their vision of developing a better understanding across all areas.”

“This partnership will help redefine and clarify information relevant to consumers, ensuring all acne sufferers will, in future, receive relevant and effective information and treatment for their acne.”

Dr Katerina Steventon is the ideal representative for BABTAC as she is an independent skin scientist with research interest in skin health and ageing. She has been researching and providing skin care recommendations for over 20 years and has sound knowledge of the beauty industry. Her approach to skincare is unique, combining the latest in skin research and clinical practice to promote the principals of good practice in skincare and sun protection.

Individuals looking to share their thoughts on the unanswered questions regarding the treatment of acne can be done at The Acne Survey - Acne Perceptions.

Until then...geek on!
