Hi there Nail Geeks!
Joined half an hour ago and loving this site!

My question is how quickly did you find you could go out working once you finished your training?
Did you practice on friends for a few weeks or feel confident enough to go straight into the general public?

Thanks so much

Katie x

hiya katie :)

welcome! x

I qualified in beauty just over a year ago and i was petrified on working on clients lol! even my friends! .. i started dong treatments on my mum like waxing etc and then one day she paid me! lol! i was in shock! but i knew then that i must be good enough to be paid :) and it gave me a boost! sad i know! lol!

with nails though i was even worse i loved doing them on my self etc and my friends it has taken me since a month ago to get work in a salon which was really discouraging for me! so i am now self employed! i love going to my clients houses and giving them advice on what to do etc :)

i took me a while to build my confidence but its so worth it! i couldnt imagine doing anything else now :D

Thank you Emily! :D

I don't start my CND course till the end of this month but just wondered how quickly I could begin applying for a job,
but think Ill b the same as you and be a bit nervous at first to get out there! Maybe should wait a bit before getting a job,

Thanks so much! x

Hi Katie
welcome to SG. I say after working on family "go for it"! I took the risk last October and now have a busy diary and I'm loving it, I still get really nervous now if a new client comes in but that feeling when they re-book at the end of the appointment gives you a huge confidence boost. Obviously dealing with the public you come accross a LOT of different expectations, just imagine yourself receiveing the treatment and you cant go wrong. Its really scary at first but be confident and take your time and you'll be fine. GOOD LUCK xxx

Ooo good luck!! :D i did my training with them after my nail servics course and they were amazing! i wish i hadnt even bothered with my nvq in nail services!!

i get scared with new clients but if u just prove to them how good u are etc they love it :) just tell them everything u know :) you knowledge is much better than theres and most of the appreciate it :D

you could always apply for jobs and let them know u will be training with cnd? maybe u could try working self employed and offer nails discounted while u training? and let the clients know... setting up a facebook group is good! its free advertising and there are millions of people on there.. your friends will all want something done.. its the best way to start!

xx

Hi Claire! Thanks!
Im now so excited to get going! Haha! Maybe just a little bit of practice with friends then Ill begin working! Hoping my excitement in nails will boost my confidence in working with new clients,

Thank you! X

Oh Facebooks an ace idea! Thanks Emily!

Yeah I did lots of researching and the CND course seemed to be the best to go for! Glad you've got good feedback from it and enjoyed it!
And still cant decide on going self employed or to a salon? Hmm Something else to think about! haha x

I'm just about to finish up my NVQ 2 in Nail Services, but I'm already doing manis and pedis on a couple of people, no payment whilst I'm training which they are aware, but it's all practice and as soon as I've got my certificate they have all said they will pay.

I was thinking about doing my NVQ 3 in Nail Services, although I wish I could just jump straight in with CND but there are two problems for me. I am unemployed after leaving my job in march due to bullying so money for me is at an all time low, and also there are no centres close to me and I'm a right scaredy cat when it comes to driving!!

I think go for it after you've had a bit of practice on friends and family. I still get scared doing nails in my family, and my friend is being a difficult client for assessments so that's knocking my confidence a bit too. The feeling you get when someone asks you (outside of f&f) to rebook is brillient.

Good luck x
