Best Training Course for a beginner

After years of the corporate world I finally have the opportunity to retrain in beauty (never had the time or money before!) skincare in particular has always been a big passion of mine. I have the chance after a qualification to have my own at home space (garage conversion) however before jumping the gun I’ve been thinking of what I would like to train in services I would like to provide.

With the passion I have for skincare etc I’ve decided I would most enjoy offering these kind of treatments facials, luxury facials, microdermabrasion, dermaplanning etc etc so now to training courses and back to learning the basics…

I’m toying with two at present either the London School of Beauty and Makeup doing a level 2&3 combined facials and skincare or Skin Philosophy Become a Facialist course and then progress on - I want the best education and mentors to give me a really solid foundation of the basics first - in everyone’s professional opinion which would be the best course? I’m already leaning towards one and looking to book and pay my deposit this week but wondered what all you professionals thought (or if there’s another one I haven’t yet found!)

I would think that the level 2 and level 3 facial units will give you what you are aiming for, plus, you can add other units easily in the future if you decide to add on nails or waxing for example.

Ensure that the level that you train at will equip you with the facial electrics element, wherever you choose to train. You will find it essential for your facial opportunities at a later date.

LSBM includes that within the level 3 part which is the course I’m leaning towards with then doing the Level 4 IPL and laser after. I can do any additional add ons too should I feel I need them.

If you are a complete beginner and have no previous beauty qualifications, I would recommend doing a course in Level 2 and Level 3 Beauty Therapy. Look for NVQs, SVQs, VTCT, ITEC, CIBTAC, CIDESCO, City and Guilds etc - really do your research for this!
The above qualifications ensure you get a good insurance provider such as the FHT or beautyguild once you qualify. They also really open your options when it comes to further training as some course providers only accept those qualifications and of course you are taught to a very high standard with these qualifications which minimises any potential risks that you could run into with clients in the future as you know what your doing basically.
Stay clear of any course providers who do not let you know of the qualification you will receive.
Since you love facials Level 2 and 3 Beauty Therapy is a great start as it covers basic facials in Level 2 and facial electrics (such as microdermabrasion, microcurrent, high frequency etc) in Level 3.
However if you are trained already in Level 2 and Level 3 Beauty Therapy then I would recommend looking at some of the courses Gateway Workshops have to offer, they provide a good qualification and seem quite reliable.

Hi! I could have written this post myself! I’m in a very similar situation and wondered how you were getting on? I’m still looking at various course options - due to where I live, access to these courses is a bit of a problem! Ultimately, choose the one that aligns best with your goals and resonates with you.
