Hi fellow salon geeks...

I am new to salon geek so I am slowly getting used to how this forum milarky works so please bare with me!!

I thought it was a good idea to join this site as I am new-ish to the nail Industry and thought this would be a great place to get advise etc.

I have recently trained and qualified with Bio sculpture and when it comes to overlays and sculpts I feel remotely confident, the only problem I seem to be having since the course is getting my head around using Bio sculpture with tips!!

Before the Bio course I went on a days course to learn how to apply Gel nail extensions and then I had to go away and practise. I was hoping I would have been taught how to apply tips the Bio way on the course but they don't teach you this due to them trying to move away from Bio using tips, however I am finding that alot of people I know still want extensions. Anyway I have tried to sort of teach myself by using my manual and I am doing everything it says and when I called my trainer she said everything I was doing sounded correct however after a few days the tips seem to be coming off!!

I am getting so frustrated as I just don't know what I am doing wrong??? I know practise makes perfect and it won't come over night but I was wondering if anyone else on here uses the Bio system with tips, if you think its as good as other systems and to get some HELP please?

Sorry to waffle.

Thanks for listening...

Hey Hun
I use Biosculpture gel with tips, the trick is to keep them shortish, when you say they are coming off can you tell me where abouts zone 3, zone 2 or the free/tip edge?

Tell me your step by step and prep and we can troubleshoot with you :) there is also a bio social group which you can join and ask as many questions as you need, (if I knew how to link it I would lol)

Hi Sue,

Thank you for replying to my post.

Well I have tried to keep them fairly short however saying that they were quite long on my sister and her's only lasted 3 days!! :O(

They mainly seem to be coming off at the free/tip edge and a couple on zone 3.

So this is my step by step and prep... (Hopefully you can see by tell by this where I'm going wrong)

*Prep nails - Dual Cleanse,Anti fungal, cuticle remover, push back cuticles, dual cleanse, shape, dual cleanse, vitamin dose, exec base. (In the book it says to buff the exec base however I wasn't taught to do this on my course so I don't. Should I?)
*Apply clear gel, cure 2 mins, dual cleanse, buff using sponge board, remove dust, dual cleanse
*Size tips and buff application piece, glue tip, remove access, shape tip.
*buff down the ridge where tip has been applied then go over with sponge board, use nail brush, rinse and scrub nails, dry nails.
*Apply S-Gel over nail then drip and drag, cure 2 mins, duel cleanse, shape upper arch, barrell sides and surface, dual cleanse.
*Overlay - Colour 2 mins, colour 2 mins, S-Gel 4 mins, dual cleanse.

Just joined the bio social group so thank you for reccommending.
Again thank you for helping.x

Hiya, im still training with Bio got exam in 3 weeks, argh!!!!!!!!!!!
I use tips too coz i cant sculpt. When i prep i always buff off the exc base (thats what i was taught) with the blue board.
Also, my first layer is not clear, i use sculpting gel. Dual cleanse and buff before applying tip.
After applying tip and blending, etc. I apply s-gel cure 2mins, dual cleanse and shape if needed.
Then start the overlay as you said.
Hope that helps.
If im wrong please someone tell me.

Hi Caz..

Its strange isn't it as I wasn't taught to buff off exec base but after reading it in the book it confused me as to whether I should or not. I guess from now on I will buff.
Yeah it says in the book to use sculpting gel but my tutor said to use Clear Gel if you don't have sculpting. I wonder if that's where I'm going wrong - Maybe I should purchase a sculpting gel too! I'm going on the advanced course in a few weeks time so I could purchase one then I guess!

You do know that they now make you do sculpts in the accessment? It's new - we were the first to do it when I had my exam!! :O(

Thanks Caz and good luck with the exam. :O)

OMG you have to do sculpts on them??!!!
I cant sculpt, i thought u only did it if u wanted to.

My tutor told me that sculpting gel is a must so i purchased some on my training day.
Apparently its rly good as a base layer for weak nails and ridged ones.
I use it for bad ridged nails and it works a treat, but hear some peolpe use it all the time.

Its so confusing.

Where are you doing your training? I done mine in Fleet so maybe its different for difeerent locations? It maybe worth calling you tutor to tripple check?!

Yeah we had to do two sculpts in the exam - 1 with a pink french overlay and one with a clear french overlay. I struggled with sculpts too but practised loads and was fine in the end when I took the exam so you will be too!!

Oh ok well I will purchase some Sculpting gel when I go in a few weeks. Strange and confusing when different tutors say different things isn't it!!

Yeah it is confusing, lol.
I trained in Clevedon. I will practice, practice, practice on my sculpts then. Glad i found out now, thats what i will be doing at work tomorrow while im quiet lol.
