Last year May / June time, noticed my nail was bruised, nail technician informed me it was my nail coming away from nail bed, I have continued to have acrylic overlays over my nail as I thought this would protect it. It starts to get better, then I accidentally knock it & it's bad again.

Last time I had my overlays, me & technician said it was looking better, now I appear to have banged / knocked it again & it's bruising again, it is a funny sort of pale white / brown colour.

I do have an underactive thyroid & have been advised that nail bruising can be linked to this.

Any help / advice gatefully received.

Do you Have the nail short or quite long? My mum has a underactive thyroid and has never had any problems with her nails and she's had them on about3-4years now. i have other clients who have a Under active thyroid and never had a problem. Have you been to the doctors to check its not an infection or something?

When I have overlays & infills, have it filed down quite short, but at the moment my nails & hair seem to be growing quite quickly...must be healthy!

Doctor said, can only look when you take your fake nails off...obviously doctor not a fan of acrylic!

Your doctor has got a point and tbh I would have left any extension off that nail and see what happened....any probs on any other nails??
