Just wondering. If you are already doing a self assessment tax return for other incomes do you have to inform the tax man that you have started a new business? Also if you do who is the tax man and where do you get the number from?

I said I need to inform the tax man and hubby said he doesn't think I do and I just add it on to my self assessment. Just want some clarification.

Thanks for reading.

Sorry I tried to edit the title to make it more of a specific question but I can't seem to be able to do it.

The 'tax man' is HMRC..... just google it for numbers

No, assuming that you are already registered as self employed then you don't have to let them know if you start another business or different income (eg. income from renting a property). You do need to fill in a new page for each income stream on your self assessment.

They aren't bothered by how many businesses you have just how much money you've got coming in!

Have a look at buisness link website, loads of info wich will help.

Thank you both. Your help is very much appreciated x
