Wouldn't it be amazing if you could afford to produce a classy, eye-catching and kick-ass advert to be shown in the middle of the opening episode of the latest Homeland series? Yeah, well, if you have a few million to spare you probably can. Most of us have to make do with an ad in the local rag. But, some savvy businesses are using YouTube to bypass those extortionate marketing costs.
You have to be savvy though. Many have tried and many have failed but, done well, with some thought and a little money thrown at producing decent ads/short films you can reach an audience that even the X Factor on a Saturday night would be proud of.
A Las Vegas based waxing salon did just that. Wax Hair Removal Bar started from the premise that waxing hurts. They didn't wax lyrical (excuse the pun) about how with this wax and these creams and this magic potion, waxing doesn't hurt. No, they took an honest stance and said, "Look, waxing hurts. It hurts like hell and we're going to produce a few videos of showing you how much it hurts some people."
Some very brave people stood up to the plate and agreed to be filmed as they were intimately waxed in the spirit of the Wax Hair Removal Bar's ethos: waxing isn't about relaxation but about results. What came to pass was a total of over one million hits across the videos for the small costs of filming and editing a handful of short videos.
One million plus views later, owner Luba Sasowski is selling franchises of her salon...
You can find their channel HERE but beware - it's pretty graphic at times.
Worth a thought, no?
Until then...geek on!
