Hi!
So I’m new! I’m qualified in hairdressing but not great at colours so basically I want to freshen up my sisters hair she has such a build up of blonde highlights. I wanna make it look more natural and add some lowlights. She also hadn’t had it cut in ages. So I was thinking full head of highlights bleach only on roots 2:1 with lowlights but no idea what colour to use. Maybe a 7 base with warmth ? Don’t want it going karky and don’t want it stripy then after an ashy toner all over ? I use and am
Familiar with Wella koleston perfect. So I will post a pic what I’m trying to achieve and what her hair is currently like! Thanks x

How much will you be cutting off?
It looks very dry and porous on the ends so it’s likely to suck up colour initially but equally likely to wash out quickly too.

I think I’d lift the roots first and then go back and balayage with tint. You’ll need to use a demi or semi on the mids and ends.

Il be cutting of a good few inches, still wants to keep it a nice length but knows she needs a good bit of to make it look healthy etc,
That’s for your advice I qualified years ago lol, and just do bits and bobs, so I’m not familiar with the balayage, so il prob just stick to lifting roots and sticking some lowlights in, do you have any idea on what colours and am I better using semi or demi then permanent ( I use koleston) maybe a 7 base ? Then once that’s all done stick an ashy toner on it for the blonde ? Hope that’s understandable lol.

Thanks x

Always use a demi or semi tint after bleaching. Some people prefer to use KP but I think you get better colour and longevity with a demi like CT. If you’re foiling it, keep the foils in and tone the remaining hair.

Okay great thank you have you got any colour suggestions ? I think I’m better of going for a 7 then 8 ? Thanks

I don’t usually decide what colour to mix until I get to that stage, because for me, it depends on how well it’s lifted. So I might go for 6 or 7 as my darkest tint. Just make sure you have a 2 level difference between tints otherwise, it won’t give it enough depth and end up looking more like your starting point. So, if I dropped to a 6, I could include an 8 and a 10 tone. Also, I’d think carefully about positioning and I wouldn’t alternate a straight level 10 tint, then 8, then 6 but mix it up a bit so maybe one 6 foil to 2 or 3 level 8/10 foils.

If a client has been almost constantly bleached to a pale 9/10 for some time, they can panic when they see deeper tones, so keep it lighter around the face. Also, don’t overdo the darker foils on the first go as you can always go back in and add a few more deeper tones another time. Keep it subtle to start with.

Colour touch 7/73 with matching developer is my go to low lite colour for a soft natural look. Without being too contrasting to the blonde but still dark enough to see

Thank you ! That’s what I’ve gone for doing it Friday so fingers crossed! Thanks again for all the advice much appreciated x
