Hi,
Can any beauty therapists give me some advice. My skin is looking red and blotchy and has done now for a long time, I know my diet of coffee and cigarettes is a big factor and I am working on giving up, but could anyone recommend a good product for this type of skin. I try to cover up with foundation but it only shows how dry my skin is.

Any advise please

First of all, if you can't cut down on coffee and cigarettes, at least replenish the lost hydration by drinking 2 litres + of water a day.
Try including more fruit and veg in your diet (if you are not already doing so) great foods for your skin include olive oil, avocados, most berries. Try drinking green tea (especially with aloe vera) instead of coffee as this acts as wonderful antioxidant.
A good supplement would be one which includes Omega 3, 6 and 9. A new supplement called 'Nourella' is marine extract-based and has shown to increase skin's strength, hydration and thickness by 200%.

As for the skincare side, I would recommend a creamy cleanser that doesn't foam, like dermalogica's ultracalming cleanser, don't tone your skin with conventional toners - use a splash of mineral water to remove any traces of cleanser then tone with what you can squeeze from a sodden green tea bag, finally moisturise with demalogica's barrier repair. As your skin regains it's hyrdration you could moisturise with Olay's beauty fluid, just make sure it is the 'sensitive' one, not the original pink one.

Hope this helps

Thanks Amy,
You are a star:hug:

Can you tell me where I can buy the Deralogica products?

to be honest the only advice id give is STOP smoking and drink loads of water, mosturize regularly and try a calming face mask now and again

If it was that easy then noone would smoke.

i agree you need to use dermalogica products. i have sensitive skin and their products are fantastic i use ultra calming cleanser, soothing protection spray(alternative to your toner) , barrier repair which is a great moisturiser it is very silky and calming also i use the hydrating masque to help with hydration as i am a smoker and find it hard to drink the recomended daily amount of water.
as for where to buy them you can go to the dermalogica web site just type it into a search engine and you can type your area into it and it wil give you a list of salons that sell the products in your area. also you can buy some produts on ebay but could be quite risky buying skin care from there.
hope this helps.

You are welcome:green:

You'd be best going to a salon that stocks dermalogica, because even if you don't book a facial, they will have access to your skin and will be able to tell you more than me.

Then when you've established which products work best for you, you could consider buying them over the internet (you don't have to buy off ebay, there are lots of beauty sites selling discounted dermalogica).

Until you get hold of some dermalogica tho, try drinking and toning with green tea (Clipper Organic Green Tea with Aloe Vera is best:) ) and moisturising with Olay Sensitive Beauty Fluid - you can slap loads of this on and if your skin is that thirsty it will drink it up.

A lady in my salon that I work at occassionally says that colonic irrigation or hydrotherapy is excellent in clearing out the system and it also helps to re-balance your body and has a positive effect on the skin. She told me sometimes spotty or problem skin is caused by a build up of things in the colon and bowel.

I don't know if you would consider this but it is definately an idea to cut down on coffee & cigarettes, coffee is very dehydrating and can be ageing also, so a combination of the two won't help your skin to get better.

HTH's xx
