I just received my Cosmetic Chemistry book by Florence Barrett Hill.

The book features:

  • ingredient actions and roles
  • how to understand product labels
  • linking product composition to skin condition
  • formulations explained in easy to understand terms
I highly recommend this for all skin therapist. I believe its really important to have cosmetic chemistry knowledge so that you understand how ingredients effect the skin. The book is technical with very good images to help you visual what is happening beneath the skin.

I feel like a mega geek and am looking forward to reading this over christmas. :green:

Cosmetic Chemistry Book

Thanks for the heads up - I've been waiting for this book to be released for ages!!

That looks really interesting; I may well be tempted to get that as well at some stage...

Do you have Advanced Skin Analysis? Would defo reccomend it. I did not know about the chemistry book so will be getting that to. Her books are fantastic. Im really pleased now!!:)

Yes I have the Advanced Analysis Book and I also have been on the course too.

Florence is going to come to London next year to teach the cosmetic chemistry course. Course date and info will be published on her website shortly.

Imagine being able to read the ingredient label of a product. Do you know how to identify solvents, active ingredients, conditioning ingredients, adjusting agents, fragrance, surfactants, preservatives and colour? what are it's purpose in the formulation? and how does it effect the skin?

This book is pure geek. Essential knowledge for all those who love skin treatments :)

I have just got her skin analysis book for christmas and its awesome!!

I would be very interested to attend her course, do you have the URl for her site with this info on please?

I really want to go on the advanced skin analysis course. Was it any good? I loved the book so imagine it must be. I am renting a room at the moment and use Guinot but am still unsure if I chose the right product, did want to go for something more medical or advanced like Environ or Md Formulations. Which brand do you guys work with?. I really love the science behind skin care, but I had to go into business with my business head on so chose Guinot instead. Were I am located is quite an affluant area and I felt Guinot would offer my clients want they want. The Hydradermie is a good facial. What would you guys do? Do you go with your heart or your head?

Im really interested in getting the books especially the advanced skin analysis. Its very expensive however, is there any cheaper option out there of purchasing this book for a poor student?
Thanks

I've not seen it anywhere else any cheaper - so I guess it's a bite the bullet situation! Although expensive, it would be a real investment in your career.
