Some insurers now require a certain amount of CPD points per year. It means that you have to be seen to be educating yourself in some way. short courses hold CPD points, so if you did 2 short courses a year, you would probably be covered.
if you've just done a long college course, that will tide you over for a few years.
other ways to get CPD points are:
attend a conference or exhibition to do with your work
read professional articles
write and contribute articles
attend meetings of your organistation
reflective study - keeping a journal of what you do, include some interesting case studies and perhaps some statistics
