Hi Geeks

I am feeling a bit wobbly after a migraine and the brain isn't working so well - so I thought I had better check this out rather than just going straight ahead. I have a new client tomorrow who wants a manicure - but she has also mailed to say one of her nails is split into "the quick" and she wants that nail tipped. Obviously I haven't yet seen the extent of the damage, but am I right in thinking I could sanitise, put some adhesive over the split then have the choice of either L&P overlay, or applying a tip if that's what she still wants? It is my first "non-standard" nail and I want to get it right.

thanks in advance :D

You are correct in thinking you can apply an enhancement over this, but i wouldnt take the extra step to apply adhesive first. a lot will depend on the severity of the break, but the general rule of thumb if the natural nail is cracked into the nail bed is to cleanse it thoroughly, let it dry completely, prep gently and apply enchancement product as soon as possible. i would first and foremost trim off any excess length from the natural free edge, lightly buff any jagged broken pieces flush, prep the rest of the nail as usual, but try to avoid the free edge area if any of the sterile matrix is exposed, just spritz this with alcohol and let air dry. if she wants an extension i would definitely use a tip as fitting a form to a badly damaged nail can be difficult and quite painful for the client. apply the tip as you normally would (and keep it short!), try to avoid well-less or micro well tips, then finish with your normal steps. hth:)
