Hi all! I'm a first time poster, but have been browsing this forum for a while and find it great!
I've always been interested in nails, and did a practical course last year in acrylic extensions. I also did a nail art course and loved it. I'm after starting a home study course to focus on the theory behind nails, and hope in the future to train properly with one of the main brands. For the time being I do my own nails, and some of my friends' nails aswell.

Ideally in a few years I'd love to become a mobile nail technician, and I want to research what's involved first. I live in Ireland so I know some things will vary, but would love any advice you have.
Some questions I have:
Are there any good nail magazines out there that would benefit me?
Is it very expensive to set up as a mobile nail technician?
Are there many legal requirements, etc that I need to sort out?
Is it ok to focus just on acrylic, or should I look into training in gels as well?
What kind of regular expenses do you have apart from buying materials, traveling, etc?
How do you arrange your holidays? Do you assign your clients to other technicians while you are gone?

Sorry for the long-winded post! Thanks in advance for any advice :green:

1. Are there any good nail magazines out there that would benefit me?
SCRATCH magazine seems to have the monopoly at the moment as being the only nail magazine for professionals although some of the beauty mags have a nail section.

2. Is it very expensive to set up as a mobile nail technician?
Not compared to most other businesses. There is your stock which does not have to be extensive to start with but a warning .. there is nothing worse or more domed to fail than an underfunded business ... and a car

3. Are there many legal requirements, etc that I need to sort out? Public liability insurance and if you are doing nails you should have it right NOW.

4. Is it ok to focus just on acrylic, or should I look into training in gels as well? If you want to be successful you need to eventually work towards being able to offer everything.

5. What kind of regular expenses do you have apart from buying materials, traveling, etc? YOUR TIME. Insurance, running your car and depreciation, Phone. What you would expect.

6. How do you arrange your holidays? Do you assign your clients to other technicians while you are gone? If your lucky and have someone you can recommend then yes .. otherwise you knock yourself out fitting everyone in just before you go and then sort them all out when you return.

Thank you so much for your reply. I just want to give myself enough time to take everything into account before I set anything in motion properly. Thanks again :)
