So often, I receive press releases from nail brands screaming and shouting about what they did at fashion week. Just as often, these nails are great, the shots are cool and it's ace for the industry that nails are loud and proud at fashion weeks around the globe. But, none of them (and I mean none of them) are as loud, proud and artistically mind-blowing as the recent collaboration between CND and The Blonds.

The difference? As Jan Arnold, co-founder of CND says, "The Blonds allow us creative freedom like no one else. The creative process is truly collaborative and the end product is theatrical inspiration."

The key word is "collaborative". Nails aren't an afterthought at The Blonds show; the nails are part of the look, they enhance the look, they are designed, artistic, avant-garde, structured and sit in as part of the overall fashion experience. CND haven't gone in to cover up craggy nails, they haven't simply chosen a shade that sits in with the collection and painted all the fingernails and toenails they can find. They have created nails that are an extension of the clothes - in this sense, their tagline has never rang truer: Nails, Fashion, Beauty.

Inspiration for The Blonds show was "The Original Blonde" and CND elaborated on this theme. They played off the designer's ode to historical blondes set in space and referenced familiar blondes in art, animation and popular culture. Tweety Bird was there, as was Marilyn Monroe and the Bionic Woman. The show pushed the envelope in terms of fashion and nails and the images from CND are testament to that.

"This season in New York, we decided to partner exclusively with The Blonds," explains Jan Arnold. "We have been working with them since their inception in 2008 and they are the ultimate artists of fashion week. The Blonds' creative inspiration for this year very much fell in line with our 'Paradise' trend prediction, which portrays woman as an exotic bird with bright, bold nails as her ultimate adornment."

And, Phillipe and Daniel Blond, the designers, were just as vocal about the creative harmony between the two. "We continue to work with CND because each year the nails are more elaborate than the last. There is no other company who could understand our creative vision and interpret it the way that they do. CND sets trends...they are more than just nails, they are about art and that is what makes them the perfect partner for us."

The nails are art - that much is clear - but to look at images and not know where fashion ends and nails begin is an achievement that few brands can claim.

Until then...geek on!
