Hi

I've just finished writing to four local gentlemen's clubs offering discounted tans to all dancers.

Has anyone else tried this? Do you think it's a good idea?

Thanks x

Hiya.
Yeah i think its a great idea.
more business for you is a good thing.
Dancers often want tans and waxing is also popular in that profession.
Good thinking i reckon.
:green:

Thank you!

I thought so, i even offered to tan 1 dancer for free (as a trial) so that they can all see the results.

Hopefully it'll pay off

x

Better still go see them...thats what I do...all in the name of buisness development of course :lol::lol:

"business development" only i'm sure haha

The letters are sent now, so i'll wait and see if i get any response.

I vinyl lettered my rear windscreen today too, and i have flyers coming tomorrow for a leaflet drop. All good advertising, and publicity.

What you tend to find with these clubs is that the girls that do the dancing in there are from out of town and travel to the club on the night they work,
for example the Leeds clubs has girls brought in from Manchester and the Manchester clubs has girls brought in Leeds,
what you need to do is talk with the guy that does the hiring as he will be able to inform the local dancers that would usually travel to one of his other venues, hth

(no im not telling you how i know lol)

I have addressed my letters to the management, not the dancers themselves, so hopefully that will go in my favour.

Thanks for the advice, that wasn't something i was aware of.

I tried this a few months back and got a very angry manager screaming and swearing down the phone at me telling me I was trying to poach his staff. I then got another guy call me telling me not to appraoch the club again as his daughter does all the tanning/waxing for the girls.

Luckily I didn't put my address on them as one salon in that area with a similar name the guy who rang me actually went into the salon after and was very very confrontational. He left my letter with them and they rang me.

If you do this do it carefully and leave your address off.

Thanks but I don't post my address, only contact details.

All they had to do was ignore the letter! what did you letter say that would cause such a harsh reaction?

My letter is simply a promotional offer to their staff, that they can either take or leave x

I only put that for group professional bookings I charge xx per hour and the guy went nuts!

Theres some well run clubs and some dodgy ones so I obviously picked a few of them lol! Its not like I know which ones are legit or not is it .

Haha oh well... live & learn.

At the end of the day you only offered your service, they only had to decline. Obviously scared of healthy competition ;)

I'm not expecting a response really, i just thought it was worth a try. Potentially a huuuuge money spinner!

You need to get in with the 'house mother'. She manages the girls and she could be a he too!! In my experience of dancers, especially lap/pole dancers, they are as louby said from out of town so its good to get deposits via the house mother as they do let you down. I had an appt many years ago to tan at least ten girls before their shift started at 12pm. Not one turned up!!
Its a great idea but, in reality very hard business to get into unless you are one of the dancers offering this service.
I dont want to dishearten you though cos if you can get in then good on u xxx

I promise not to ask how you know but now I'm fascinated and have to ask... why do they do that, why the cost of transporting the girls 50 miles away when they could dance in their own town?? I'm sure there's a perfectly sensible reason that hasn't occured to me which is why I ask.

the club doesnt pay for the girls to be transported, but the girl's normally choose to dance in a different city from where they live. This means that there is less chance they will bump into someone they know when working.

I think the best thing you can do is to go along one evening, preferably a week night, and ask the manager/house mum to put a poster up in the changing rooms and leave some leaflets. These girls are self employed so they will be paying for all of their own treatments, not the management. Remeber that practically all dancers have acrylic nails, so I would definately advertise that (obviously only if you do them!)

Check out their opening times, and ask the girls what time they need to get to work. You always do an early evening discount, or perhaps a treatment with a glass of bubbly. In my experience most dancers meet up with each other before their shift begins to go for a drink, or a meal.

Oh!! just remembered!! all dancers have their feet on show (most of them wear clear perspex platforms) hollywood toes go down really well!!!!!

For the reasons given above, also so they don't get the boyfriends in there spoiling the night,
hows a girl meant to work her charms when her other half is watching lol:lol:,
plus there will be family members that you would not want to see you doing your job,
it makes it much safer for the girls to work out of town, hth

the club that i am talking of is a good one and does provide transport and security for the girls.

Hi all :)

Speaking as a former dancer myself, I think this could be a difficult one :irked:
Because of the green/red/blue lights used in clubs we all had to use very very dark tan for it to show up (St Tropez looks fab on me in daylight but under the spotlights I still looked ghostly) so for this reason we all used the really dark instant tans and just wash them off in the morning. If I'd been sprayed as dark as I needed for work I would of looked very tango'ed during the day

Pedi's are a good idea because I used to dance in 7 and a half inch platforms and the hard skin builds up quickly!

Most of the girls I'v worked with have had nail extensions although I didn't (obviously working as a therapist myself it's not very practical) so that could be a good money-spinner.

Lash perming also! I did quite a few on friends at the club

Hope this helps and I would just like to point out that I left dancing after 2 years because I wanted to focus on my career as a spa therapist and unfortunately some employers out there can be quite judgemental and get totally the wrong idea about what dancers do  but it's a sacrifice I was happy to make

Sorry for long post! Also my first. Yay!

Thank you so much for your reply, that gives us a great insight to the other side.

Sienna do offer a 16% solution for show-type use, but as you correctly said, in everyday life it would look quite ridiculous (IMO).

I will however take on board your comments regarding pedi's and nail enhancements, thank you.

The clubs should receive their letters today so, i am prepared for abuse, being ignored and maybe a very slim chance of any response at all.... all thanks to your replies HAHA

To be honest the clubs i contacted are huge, some nationwide..... so not really expecting much.

Thanks all xx

No problem, glad I could be of help :)

Also one thing that I used to spot quite regularly was nail enhancements glowing under the UV lights and looking really fake? I don't know if some types of products do and some don't? (I've never trained in nail enhancements and don't have a clue!)

Hi, Just wondering if you wouldnt mind posting a template of the kind of thinf you should state in a letter when introducing yourself? I was thinking of doing a similar thing for dance schools or gyms but unsure how to word it?

Thanks so much x
