Habia, the government approved standards setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa, has named Edinburgh as the next city to host its educational conference. The event is to take place on the 29 November 2010 at the Roxburghe Hotel and will review and expand on the discussions held at the previous gathering in London in June, but this time with a focus on the issues and practices affecting industry professionals in northern England and Scotland.

Alan Goldsbro, Habia Chief Executive, said: “It is important for us to make sure that educators across the UK are kept up to date and well informed of the numerous changes that are happening to various parts of the education system right now. The conference in Scotland will cover the most pressing issues for educators in our sector and offer some insight into the challenges ahead and how best to deal with them."

Speakers for the Scotland conference have been confirmed and include:

· Skills funding for full time learners
Dr. André Reibig, Senior Policy Officer, Scottish Further and Higher Education Funding Council

· Employment law legislation, redundancy and Apprenticeships
David Wright, Habia Employment Law consultant

· Good practice in Skills For Work Provision with 14-16 pupils
Isabel McKeown, Director ACT Education

· VTCT in Scotland
Dr Stephen Vickers, Chief Executive, VTCT

· Looking ahead to HMI Inspections in hair and beauty in 2011-12
Juliet Fraser, Inspector HMI for Hair and Beauty

· Work based learning and funding
Hazel Mathieson, Head of National Operations, Skills Development Scotland

· Meeting the needs of Scotland’s spa operators
Morven Aikman and Leon Trayling, James Watt College

· Developments in supporting learners with dyslexia
Fiona Philp, Adam Smith College

There will also be an information area, featuring:

· Nic Robinson and the team from conference sponsors VTCT, explaining their products and services in Scotland

· Wendy Nixon from Habia answering questions on health and safety

· Iain McCaskey from the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils (ASSC) in Scotland demonstrating MA Online

· Lilian Cameron and Andrew Darby from Habia responding to queries on policy, qualifications, CoreSkills and Apprenticeships.

Tickets for conference in Scotland cost £195 including VAT. Tickets for the Habia Live show afterwards are free to delegates, or £15 including VAT to non-delegates. Those purchasing four Habia Live tickets will be entitled to a fifth ticket free.
