hi all i am new to this but i really need some advice, i am working in a salon on a 50/50 split i am not renting a nail desk or room, she provides all the stock etc . It has been mentioned that i need to have set hours etc but on a self employed basis i am very confused as i dont want to be sat there with no clients as i wont be earning

Tell the salon owner you only do nails by appointment and you'll sit there doing nothing only if you feel it's beneficial to you.

Would you rather be sat at home not earning? At least in salon you may get a walk in. If you're not there, you are guaranteed to earn zilch.
Did you take the position there knowing you would be self employed?

i dont know how it is in the salon you are in but about 50% of our beauty appointments are last minute...so if you arent there you may lose out on that. we all have days where we are sitting wishing for clients, but you can keep busy in the salon by cleaning, preparing advertising, and getting to know existing clients of the salon (you never know, they may book in with you) x

Yes, I agree that you, really, need to be there gain work, but the point I was trying to make in my earlier post is that you shouldn't be told what hours to work by the salon owner. As a self employed tech it is your decision how much hours (and effort) you put in:)

Whether you are there 10 hours a week or 60, it's important to work the same time frames consistently so your clients know when to see you. If your schedule is sporadic, the client sees you as inconvenient to them.
