The value of an apprenticeship has been given a boost, not just by 'Lord Sugar' and his famed TV show, but by a new initiative designed to support and highlight the businesses who take apprentices on.
One company that's joined the new scheme, organised by Apprenticeships, is Herb UK, the UKs largest own brand manufacturer of hair colour and products. It's already taken on its first individual and can now display the Apprenticeship employer's badge on its website to highlight the brand's commitment to the programme.
Raoul Perfitt, MD of Herb UK, said of their candidate: James Coleman is doing an NVQ 2 in Business Administration. Hes our companys first apprentice and we see this as a positive step forward for us and the local community. His role is to be the quality managers assistant where he will be doing all the administration that goes around process writing, specification updates, data updates, filing and archiving.
The scheme has been developed in response to consumer demand. Recent research, commissioned by the National Apprenticeship Service, showed that 64% of consumers would use a register enabling them to choose a business that hires apprentices and over 80% of people are more likely to use a business if it offers Apprenticeships to young people.
