Hello,

I'd really appreciate your advice.

I have straight hair and would love a perm to make it wavy.

At the moment I blow dry my hair, then either tong the ends or straighten it but with having children it just takes me too long and I really don't have the time or inclination to style it EVERY morning.

My little girl has lovely curls and I just wash and scrunch it and it looks beautiful.

Can anyone recommend a home perm that I can do?

I just want to wash my hair, comb it and let it dry naturally (particularly during the week) and don't want CURLS but just a loose wave.

I'm also not very good at putting rollers in,so if I bought a home perm kit could I put the solution on my hair without rollers, then scrunch it and leave the solution on for the desired time? When I wash my hair now, I can scrunch it when it's wet and it does look wavy, but as soon as it dries the waves just virtually disappear.

Is there a product on the market that would wave my hair without the use of a perm, curling tongs etc..... like a cream or mousse?

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

if you want this effect
go to a salon or college :) where they are highly supervised and taught to do these type of specialist perms

 Oh my goodness me , Noooo, it would go dead straight and lank

Sorry no there isnt , but loreal and wella do some beautiful soft natural perms
but perms arn't suitable at all for hair that has been highlighted with bleach or very pre lightened hair
(so if in doubt always have test pieces done first )

prehaps try a different mousse
wella do a curly hair mousse that holds well its called twirl it or something like that, try the stronger hold,

Also do ask your hairdresser or local college for a full perm consultation

on the plus side a college will be far cheaper ,
epecially with the credit crunch , plus they really do need the perming clients , and you will recieve a top of the range perm fully guided by a first class tutor
hth :)

Hi you may want to try a pump spray by technique, think its called curl activator or something, its in a black bottle with blue/green writing (off the top of my head) and its sold in sally's hair and beauty

Its designed to spritz on to either naturally curly or permed hair to enhance the curl, im sure you can use it on wet and dry hair, i brought it for my sis to try as she likes to leave her hair to dry naturally into waves. and it does work on her.

its alot safer then doin a home perm, whats the worst then can happen with a spray?? i wont even begin on a perm!

perms take maintenance, no matter how loose you require them, its no short fix. it should be done by a professional, with professional products. Hairdressing isnt something you should skimp on!

hope this helps :)

Thanks for your messages.

I did know this was a site for professionals and I really appreciate your advice.

Think I was having a bit of a mad moment thinking I could perm my hair.

I've had quite a few bad experiences going to salons, hair cut shorter on one side than the other, kept waiting over half and hour whilst the hairdresser finishes someones hair, layers not even, etc...... and now I have a complete panic about going into a hairdressers, sweaty palms, feel sick and can't bring myself to walk into a salon, hence the home perming bit.

Is there a list of mobile hairdressers in the Lancashire area?

:)

Have you no friends or family that can recommend a hairdresser they use?

we arent all bad :)

and while i know what your saying about waiting...sometimes it isnt just our fault, there can be many reasons why the stylist is behind, the client is late, people book in for trims and then demand other things, something might happen that takes them away from what they were doin for a few mins, i can go on and it all adds up.

im sure u would much rather that stylist was behind and finishing someone else then rushing through just to stick to a specified time. its not like u go to the doctors or dentist expecting to be seen dead on the dot is it??

nobody likes to be behind but unfortunately it happens, like in other jobs sometimes u need to stay on a little. next time ur waiting remember its not because the hairdresser doesnt want to be running to time, to me its also a sign of how busy the hairdresser actually is.

Have a look on the freeindex, it lists hairdressers and people get to review to hth :)
