Home Salon Requirements

Hi everyone, I’m thinking of opening a salon at home in a summerhouse in the garden.. Does anybody know-

1. Do you have to ask council permission before setting the business up?

2. If you have to offer toilet facilities for clients? (There won’t be any employees just me alone working from there)

3. If you have to pay business rates for working from a summerhouse?

4. What insurances I would need other than public liability etc

Any other bits of advice would be amazing! Thanks in advance x

Your first thing to do is to contact your local council to see if you need to apply for planning permission. Different councils have different rules.
Regarding provision for hand washing & loo - this would be for your local environmental health to advise on.
You will also need to consider house & contents insurance, professional insurance and if you have a mortgage you will need to ask them as some banks won't allow you have a business at home.
