Hello and welcome to salon geek moondea

I am in the process of doing the same thing and there is a lot to think about.
Have you searched the forum for home salon as I am sure there are lots of threads already about it?

You need to check with your local authority to see if you need planning permission, you will need home insurance cover and public liability etc etc

Good Luck

Hi

There has been loads of treads about this.

I have a home salon since September last year

First,, ring the council and speak to them, planning permission that's only if your changing the use of your home,,,,as long as you still use the room (I have had to say the kids use it as TV room,,, but they don't), you don't have business rates on top.

Insurance that was easy ABT and it covers me mobile too,

House insurance has been a night mare,,,, soooooo many companies won't insurnace use because I work from home,,, lloyds insurnaced abit more thou but as long as I have my professsional insurnace Its fine.

I sorted out a business account,,, again Lloyds,,, 18 months free banking and most banks offer that.

You have 3 months to register your business with inland revence I got an accountant to sort that side of things out, soo much easier and it's classed as an expense.

There really isn't alot to sort out I sorted it all in a day, I did electroysis so had to register with the local council.

Good Luck

Kerry

thanks for you reply, I will be looking into it more as this is something i really want to do. However I have read somethings and they have said it has to have a separate entrance is this true?

Doesn't need a separte entrance. My clients come though my front door.

The council in my area like you to have a wash basin in your room but wehn the council lady came out to me she said it would be fine bacause the bathroom is directly opposite.

Ring the council and they will tell you,,,,,,every council is different.

Is it house insurnace that are asking for a separte entrance???

no it was a few sites giving information on how to start up a home salon.. but thanks I will call the council 2moro for information.
