It may sound stupid but I feel like I’m going through a crisis, I’m level 2 and 3 beauty qualified but want to advance my skills in nail. Found a course in nail tech that’s a 30 week course...however I’m now doubting my self. I think lockdown hasn’t helped, still on furlough and feel fed up. I feel for a 25yr old I’ve got nowhere in life, no full time job. Sorry for the rambling on but I just don’t know what to do.

The Pandemic lockdowns have affected people enormously. You’re definitely not alone feeling lost and confused about how the future will unfold but there are always going to be options available, if you actively look for them. You’re still at the beginning of your working journey so you’ve got plenty of years ahead to spend learning and discovering new talents.

Most people change career at least three times during their working life, that’s career not jobs. A job for life was something that was common in previous generations, but advances in science and technology in the last thirty years means that new career paths are opening up and the pace of change is extremely rapid.

You’ll find plenty of older students attending training courses who have already worked in a range of industries and have decided that they now want their working lives to focus more on social and holistic practices. Hence retraining in Beauty and related services.

I worked in Law, then Education and finally trained as a Hairdresser after having a child in my forties and I still love discovering new interests. I definitely haven’t finished my learning journey, far from it!

This is your life and no-one can live it for you, so just dive in and enjoy.

I was 33 and also the oldest in my class.

There was a woman in my class who was very TAN and wrinkled. When we were telling ages, she said she was 29. I blurted before I could think: 'you're not 30 yet?' OMG...I felt so bad afterwards!

50 years old, private one to one classes over 12 weeks for acrylics and gel extensions, now do specialist toenail & fingernail repairs and own a salon. I am 60 now, and never regretted it. I have changed career a few times too and learned a lot long the way. Worked for a bank, transport company, for myself as a garage owner, owned several pubs and a brewery with restaurant. Retired and retrained in beauty and nails- love it !!! Change happens, go with it xx

II'm 47 and just retraining lost my career in senior retail fragrance after being hit by a car ending up in a wheelchair in my thirties which they said I'd never recover from then over the last 10 years I've been trying to gain enough mobility to get out of my wheelchair and return to employment I've now been out of my wheelchair 2 years still have really bad pain days and days when my mobility is bad but studying and retraining is helping me in so many ways! Never let age or in fact, anything stop you doing what you want to do! especially something that you love.
