I-pod Help

Can someone please help me out here,
Tried setting up my sons i-pod and dont want it linked to my account ( he has loads of itunes gift cards to redeem)
Any way, it said hes too young for an account so has no way of redeeming his gift cards, surely there must be a way round this, loads of kids have i-pods.
I tried to back track and slightly alter his age but theyre on to me LOL

I'm not i-Pod savvy but could you open a second account in your name that would be just his? HTH!
