Hi guys,

So I'm doing my level 3 qualification within a salon and am currently deciding which units to do for it. I've always had an interest in extensions and the application of them so I'm considering taking this unit, however we do not offer it as a service in or salon at this moment in time. I have a few questions for anyone who does extensions or is just in general a geek about extensions, and some advice would be lovely 😁

- How much do the extensions cost? I would preferably like a high quality of hair to match our salon and am prepared to hear the shockingly high prices haha!

- What type of extensions do people use? I know micro loops are extremely popular nowadays, but I've heard they're not great for your hair 😔

- What type of hair would people say is best? Everyone bangs on about Remy Hair but I've read that Russian is now the way forward apparently?!

- What suppliers do people use? Do you have minimum order sizes?

- How much stock needs to be carried at any one time?

- How much should we be charging for the service? I've seen some people do it for £150 then others do it for £500+ 😳

- How long does it take for the service?

- How do you market it to clients? It would be a new service to the salon I am in so hopefully it would go down a treat in the local area 😛

- Do you guys find it easy to break even? Does it take a lot of extension services to be done to break even?!

Ahhh someone please help! Even typing all this is making my brain hurt 😣

Thankyouuuuuu xx

Great Lengths are the best.... The stylist who goes on the course is the stylist recognised by Great Lengths. The course is not cheap but you get the machine and everything else you need . After an intense 2 day course you are qualified in Great Lengths. You can then take this to the salon you work in and only you can specialise in this area, no one else. Plus you can also do it mobile. I love Great Lengths.... :D

Hello, id check the content of the unit, we have it at a local college and its plaited weaves and glue in synthetic for show styles, neither are bread & butter practical work. It maybe useful to you if it also includes wig making and tipping and colour blending but you may still need a practical course.

Oh in answer to your question.. :)

£50-500

Loops are not popular, you might be mistaking it for micro ring/bead also look at prebonds

Remy refers to how hair is processed, it should all be classed as remy for fitted hair, origin is mostly dependant on cost.

Lots of suppliers, some page 1 of google, some secrets you stumble on, hang around the board you'll find some suggestions

You order the hair you fit as you go

Charge what your worth, it may be fixed or per hour, it wants to inline with colour ph at least, dont forget to include cutting and styling time

3ish hours for me

Wearing them is the best advertising, brand posters in your salon window etc

dont hold stock of hair, its just training & initial kit costs to recover

Buy the balmain text book, its about £15 on amazon and amazing
